Quick Don update

As Becca has mentioned, I have been sick with a respiratory/sinus infection since last Tuesday - and there have been days in the last week where it hasn't been clear which of us has been sicker. I got a prescription for antibiotics today which I hope speeds my recovery, since I seem to be sicker today than yesterday.

I have been very curious about using meditation on sending/taking (Tonglen) in helping us cope. Tonglen provides a way to be very intimate with the feeling that are arising and to see them as part of human condition (by expanding our scope to include all those suffering in ways similar to ourselves) and to send ourselves and our brothers and sisters love and wishes for healing. Today I went and found a guided tonglen meditation by Tara Brach that Becca and I originally heard in person at Tara's October retreat in Baltimore. It was very powerful for me when I practiced with it early this morning (I was up long before Becca today). You can find it here, if you'd like to experience it yourself.

This evening begins the festival of Passover, which remembers the story of how the early Jews freed themselves from slavery in Egypt, and eventually found freedom in a new land of their own. May we all remember the ways in which we and our ancestors have experienced being stuck in narrow places (the Hebrew word for Egypt, mizrayim, means "narrow place"), may we remember those who are suffering today in slavery of body and/or mind, and may we all have the opportunity in our lives to touch true freedom.

Thank you for updating, Don! Sarah and I are thinking of you both especially tonight as we explore transition during the Seder. We have so much love for both of you. This year is difficult, next year in Yerushalayim.

I am anxious to try. Probably not until we leave three Grandboys Sunday afternoon. They are not big meditators. Especially the 16 month olds! A good Passiver message.

Don, thank you for your ברכות ...may we all find freedom from the things that afflict us and come out of Mitzrayim into an expanded awareness of peace, love and serenity. May you feel better soon... Chag Sameach, Bilha

Hi Don, I will try the practice you posted for tonglen. Jesse has been so ill for so long now and I will practice with all of you in mind. I am thinking of you all with love and care and a deep feeling for your healing. Having just come from a Passover Seder, the meaning of being stuck resonates particularly this year. Gerri
