First surgery day update
Don here. We arrived here at 6. It is now just after 7:30 AM. There was a little confusion when we saw the anesthesiologist - who described what they were planning as general anesthesia in addition to the paravertrebral block, while our surgeon had told us Becca wouldn't need a general. When our surgeon got back (she was in a meeting with the hospital CEO) it turned out to be a difference in terminology. Becca will not need a paralytic agent, and although they will have her hooked to a ventilator in case it's needed, she will be under very deep sedation which allows her to breathe on her own, and, in addition to the local anesthetic effects of the block, should be enough to make her comfortable during the surgery.
Because we waited for the surgeon to get back to clarify, they got started a little later than planned. They took Becca back for the block at about 7:30 AM. We expect the surgery to take 4 hours or so, plus an hour or so in recovery before they move her to a hospital room (which we expect to be on F4/4 in UW Hospital).
I'll post again when we hear from the surgeon, when the surgery is done and Becca is in recovery. We won't see Becca herself again until she is on her way to her room.

Becca is so strong, and you are strong for her. My best to both of you!
Woke up with you two on my mind. That clarification in terminology -- many people, I hope, will take from that the courage to wait and make sure the surgeon and anesthesiologist are truly on the page. As Becca may be wrapped in warm blankets, may you both feel us, too, wrapping round you.
May all go well with the surgery. Sending metta to you and Becca on this crucial day. Also, sending support as you deal with your father's declining health. May you, Becca, your father, and your extended family be as peaceful as possible with these challenging circumstances.
Don: Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for posting. Sending you major virtual hug.
