Laura's big thanks and (maybe) transition

Until today, Liza's boyfriend's mother has fully managed this site. I hope that if you are still following our journey, you will offer a post of thanks here to Suni for her dedication to Liza, as well as her son, Leighton, and especially me as we've weathered these treacherous moments over the last three months. I personally don't know how I could have survived without the support of so many people. Like Suni, several were people that I only met through Liza.

Please also show us your interest in more memories, including the words and eulogy shared at Liza's Big Energy Celebration (aka Lizapalooza).

For those who don't know me...

When Liza and I spent a semester of her junior year in Mexico, my time was focused on trying to write a book. It was about Edie (Liza's sister who lived to be almost 10) and her influence in my life. The book is terrible but the process was great practice. When I married and moved a year and a half ago, I vowed to rewrite it. It's almost 1/4 of the way complete and so far it's wayyy better. I'm sure that Liza's "crossing" will have a lot of influence on the final 3/4s... that is, once I finally get our new house renovated and my head is in a space to handle the grief and joy that go with writing it. In the meantime, perhaps I'll check in here.

But for today, I'm going to return to the beach where we walked every morning when we thought there was hope for Liza's survival. Bryan and a college friend (yes, they're still popping in to support me) will be helping me focus on what's next in this earthly life and I will search for signs that Liza and Edie are forever with me.

Liza was so special to me. We only lived together for a summer, but she will always be my roommate and little (but wiser) sister. I love her so much and think about her almost every day. I will never forget her for the rest of my life, and although I cry (bawl, usually) when I think about our memories together, I’m grateful to have them. You are such an amazing person Laura for raising such an amazingly cool vivacious loving caring and spirited girl. If you’re listening, I love you Liza

Hi Laura! I have been thinking about you and Liza a lot. I hope you are doing okay.( As okay as you could be). You once said in one of your posts that you don’t want anybody to forget Liza and keep her memory on the forefront. I can assure you that she doesn’t leave peoples minds. Especially those who knew her. As you know I am a stranger and I think about Liza & You and her family on the daily. I say a lot of prayers. I just wanted you to know that you are being thought of. Sending hugs from Marlton, NJ.

💛 thank you for reaching out. I’ve wanted to write but have been deep in a well of grief. Between that and working daily on our house, I haven’t made it here. Your kind, thoughtful words might just be my impetus. Happy 4th!
