Friday November 10

Today we had an appointment at 9:00 am at Lurie Children's in Chicago. We met with his nurse Wendy and Dr. Tomita, the neurosurgeon. After speaking with Dr. Tomita, we had to go to an occupational evaluation to help them understand exactly what he can and cannot do with his left hand..  From there he went for a spinal MRI and ct scan to evaluate things further.   Being that Brian is left handed , the wiring can be a bit more challenging so Monday morning at 8:00 am he will go for a special MRI where he will be asked questions and the MRI  will get highlighted to show exactly what part of the Brain is being used when those questions or commands are being asked. This Enables the surgeon during the surgery  to not harm those areas that he needs for functioning. Prep for surgery will be around 10:30 am and surgery will begin around noon.  It typically takes 3-4 hours.  Good news is there is no shaving of the head. They will go in and b able to see exactly what  they are dealing with and get tissue that will allow the doctors to know exactly how to treat him moving forward.  We are all home now but will be back Sunday night to a hotel near  there so we can get to the hospital early Monday morning .
