Wilma

So . . . I wasn’t going to post today but I had the sweetest interaction in the radiology waiting room this morning as I was waiting to be called back for my MRI Angiogram of my chest. I was sitting diagonal from a lady who looked exhausted as she tried to keep her frail mother, probably late 80s in age, seated in the lobby chair. I was silently praying for them and felt led to ask if I could help out in anyway, The daughter said she was exhausted and that her mom suffered from severe Alzheimer’s. She said her dad usually comes with them and her mom, Wilma, is soothed when her dad prays quietly to her. I asked the daughter if she had tried that and she replied she doesn’t pray. I asked her if she thought it would help if I prayed. She said she was “up for anything.”

I stepped over and knelt down at Wilma’s chair and grasped her hand. She squeezed my hand and proceeded to rub her hand up and down my bandaged arms.. As I began to pray I sensed her sit back and relax in her chair. I prayed for everything I could think of  - about 30 minutes. As I closed the prayer, I saw anxiety rise again in her daughter. I asked if there was anything else that keeps her calm. She said if her hands were busy, she stayed pretty occupied. Wait for it . . . Yes, you guessed it . . . I handed her “Shared Soldier” and she exclaimed, “GI Joe”. Everyone laughed. She held onto and entertained herself with “Shared Soldier” for a while. They called me back for my scan and I told her I needed my soldier back. She turned him over to me and reached out for a hug.

I learned a great lesson - trust the Holy Spirit’s leading even if it seems awkward or out of your comfort Zone. The book of Jeremiah tells us God’s ways are higher than our ways and his purposes higher than our purposes!

So, I guess I wanted to share this post just to say, pay attention to those around you, have situational awareness and look for others in need, in our social media crazed world, try looking out and forward and not down at some trivial thing on your screen.

We’ll post as we get more news on Monday and Tuesday. Have a blessed weekend!

In His grasp,

Lee
