The Dynamic Duo

I’m thankful to report that Lee’s mom made it to town and they had an overdue reunion on Memorial Day.  Knowing how mischievous the two of them can be when left unattended, I put the hospital staff on alert to monitor for an escape attempt!  Ultimately they decided to behave and enjoyed the time to catch up after not seeing each other since before the pandemic kicked off last year.

Not much progress tends to be made on the formulation of a plan over the weekends with on call physicians, so we are anxious for Lee’s surgeon to return today so we can reengage on the appropriate next steps in her treatment and recovery.  I am glad to report that Lee did have a steady improvement in her strength and pain levels in the surgical area.  She was able to walk increasing distances each day and Thor has been reduced to only two remaining “support” lines at present.  Our hope and prayer request for today is to begin more clearly re-defining what “success” looks like after the tube placement did not go as planned and the path to get her home while still working toward a long term and sustainable solution to her nutritional needs and GI paralysis.

We hope that her local physicians will be able to contact and coordinate care with the specialists at Mayo that were guiding her treatments before the pandemic.  Please be in prayer for these conversations and for Lee’s continued improvement in strength and pain management that will allow her to make it home soon.  Thanks!

Steve
