Travel date received!

FINALLY, after 14 months since we first saw a picture of Evelyn’s sweet face, we have a date for finally meeting her! We have a passport appointment scheduled for June 14 and will travel and meet her a few days before that. We are happy although we were initially disappointed that this is still three weeks later than we requested. (So we’re not sure why they bothered asking us to request a date!) But a date is a date and we will finally get to meet our little girl!

It’s amazing how close the timing is to when we brought Kira home. The girls’ birthdays aren’t that far apart to start with (May 5 and June 11), and we picked Kira up two weeks after her 2nd birthday. We will meet Evelyn and pick her up a day or two after her second birthday. The girls are also from the same city and orphanage, and every time we’ve been to India has been in April or May, so the weather in June is rather similar. (Blazing hot.) These similarities bring us a bit of familiarity into what is a huge stretch and challenge in carting two kiddos around to appointments and sharing small spaces on planes, taxis, and hotels for two weeks.

Our next steps are to secure flights for less than the price of selling a kidney and then schedule the necessary appointments for our time there. If you’re curious, our itinerary starts with about 24 of travel on at least three flights. India is just about opposite on the globe, so we’ve had routes that take us both ways around it, flying west through Hong Kong or east through Amsterdam or London, after a domestic flight in one of those directions to kick it off. We will spend a few days in Hyderabad and then fly to Delhi to complete the rest of the official appointments to be able to travel home with Evelyn.

We will then spend some time at home adjusting to life as a family of four and teaching Evelyn what it is to have parents and have a family. The best thing you could do right now to help us is to scroll back to the post titled “The unique approach of adoption parenting,” or pick up the book “In on it,” a book written for friends and family of adopting families. Knowing what to expect from us particularly this summer will help us avoid offense and help Evelyn adjust well. We have such a supportive and excited community and we feel the longing you all have with us for Evelyn to be home. Thank you for your love and support! She’ll be here soon!!

Wow! Suddenly things are moving along though the wait time can seem enormous; especially the flight times. The anticipation of all that is to come will keep your spirits high. God will bless you each and every day and moment of this time ahead of you. Feel secure in His love and that of all who are supporting you in these final steps. Soon, we will all get to meet young Miss Evelyn! Be safe and secure in each new step.
