From Mike and Colleen 8/22/22
Hello all,
Below is an update from Mike and Colleen that we all hoped to never have to post. This is all very new, so we're still figuring out the logistics of what they all will need and how best to support them, but I will absolutely post here once we have more info. Thank you all for your kind words, prayers and healing thoughts. We are so grateful.
There are no words, but here goes. This past Saturday, August 20th, we found out that Caleb’s leukemia has relapsed. He had been having some increased bruising this past week and given his history (and our trauma) we decided to be overly cautious and just get some bloodwork. We took him to the ED at DuPont (because it was Saturday) and just about 8 hours later we were getting admitted.
We don’t know much yet. He is scheduled to have a bone marrow biopsy, spinal tap and have a port placed all today. After that we will wait for his marrow to come back, likely Wednesday, then once that is evaluated the oncologists will create his roadmap. At a minimum we are here at DuPont for the next month for his induction chemotherapy, which the goal will be for him to be in remission at the end of that month. After that it’s still a little gray. Likely it will involve CAR T-cell therapy and a bone marrow transplant, but the specifics will depend on the genetics of his cancer which they will know more by Wednesday.
To say Colleen and I are devastated doesn’t quite do our emotions justice. We are so grateful though to have an amazing family and community holding us up and most importantly taking care of Felix and our fur babies while we are here at the hospital. The logistics of life now are a big question mark, but any thoughts, prayers, or love you can throw our way is much appreciated.
Megan O'Brien Perri and Kristin Moyer have offered to be our liaisons to the outside world, so they will helping us to keep everyone updated on how Caleb is doing. We will also try to post when we can. Just keep swimming…

Dearest Mike and Colleen, How awful that Caleb and you are going through this. We hope that treatment goes as smoothly as possible, and that Caleb goes into remission again quickly. CAR-T is powerful and effective. Of course you are in our hearts. If you need more tangible support, food, or otherwise, please let us know. We are sending love, and whatever else we can. How heart-wrenching, to go through this again. Deborah and Carl
So sorry to hear about this. Sending love to both of you and Caleb ❤️❤️❤️
