Day 4 - Neutropenic

Cindy is officially neutropenic so mask-wearing and hand-washing is required and no hugging or touching when visiting.

Neutropenic has to do with the neutrophil count in the blood stream.  Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell (WBC or granulocyte) that protect us from infections, among other functions. Normal neutrophil count is 1.6 to 7.2 bil/L and neutropenic is when the count dips below 1.0 bil/L.

What does bil/L mean?  Billions per liter? I could look it up but this stuff numbs my mind. Perhaps a follower can sort it out and comment?. Suffice to say, she's officially there so the meds are doing their job.

While her body was busy, so was her being with visits from our son, Adam and her siblings Bryan and Judy and her mom, Norma.  She and Adam lapped the unit three times together. Dr. Konde stopped by to say that one of the two genetic tests are in and they'll be able to know more when the second arrives.  Adam returned with me in late afternoon to finish out her busy day.

Cindy received a HUGE basket of goodies from her colleagues at Hillside Elementary who are missing her by loving on her profoundly. Cindy was deeply moved by their generosity.

As Adam and I left the hospital, I took the picture above, "Sunset over Beaumont."  (Adam is on the left holding the Hillside basket.)

Pink sky at night, sailor's delight.  How about we claim this beautiful pink sky as a promise of good things to come for our beloved Cindy?  Sleep well, love.

The sun shone brightly all day today in GR.....blinding, glorious sunshine....after a week of relentless snow and below zero temps., the thermometer rose into the high teens/low twenties and it felt darnright balmy......the sunset was a beautiful end to a day full of promise. Much like the journey you are on right now, Cindy, I am praying for the “blinding, glorious sunshine” that marks the end of a storm.....so much promise in sunshine and sunsets! Love to you.

That's alot of cells! I had to look it up, but one liter of blood holds about 10 to the 40th power of red blood cells (10 duodecillion). That's quite a cell soup! May your soup accept the necessary help from your treatments. May your body 'relearn' its ability to keep the wayward cells at bay. Hang in there, Cindy!
