In a Good Place
Looks can be deceiving because Cindy looked good today and she seems more alert and even energetic but when I asked if she looks forward to returning home, she replied, “Not when I’m feeling like this. Right now, I’m in the right place, a good place.”
I would say that of her mentally and spiritually as well, that she’s in a "good place." She is focused on healing and on cooperating with her treatment team to get the most out of the what they are doing to help her overcome AML - like resting, eating and walking. A dietician stopped by to discuss ideas to ensure she is getting proper nutrition despite the eating challenges posed by the mouth sores.
Regarding those - Infectious disease doctor Ali assessed Cindy today. Since she’s already receiving one anti-viral, Acyclovir, he doesn’t want to try another, like Nystatin, yet. However, he is replacing the bicarbonate soda rinse with Benxylox, a “swish and spit” solution containing Maalox (drying agent), Lidocaine (numbing) and Benadryl (inflammation) to rinse with before each meal. He hopes the Lidocaine will numb the sores enough to promote better eating.
Answered prayer - the suspected bacterial blood infection is minor enough to not warrant any intervention at the moment.
Exercise: Cindy did three laps with Glenn today. We also listened to a wonderful yoga video shared with Cindy by Jessica, our “Soul Stretch” yoga instructor and friend. Literally, yoga you can do in bed! Check it out: When You Need a Tender Touch. (Note - Christian focused)
I end each visit with Cindy by listening to the Our Daily Bread devotion with her, followed by prayer. Doing this seems to leave us in a particularly "good place" even though we are parting company for another day.
Thanks to everyone in Cindy's Village. You are doing your part, carrying us in so many ways. Keep at it.
