October 2, 2015: Happy Birthday, Edward!

Today Edward turned three years old.
It's been eight months since I've written, and a lot has happened. We've been to Canada, camp meeting, Maryland, General Conference Session in Texas, done a total of six weeks of nightly evangelistic meetings, had a baby girl, and moved from Muskegon to Kalamazoo. Not that that excuses going eight months without updating this site! Of course, Edward has had a lot going on, too. He's had ten infusions of IVIg and two regularly scheduled scans to check for the cancer, plus more physical/occupational/speech therapy sessions than I felt like adding up.
Here are the great things:
- He's walking and even running without his walker! He was able to pass it on to his cousin James, who loves it and uses it every day.
- He's trying to talk more.
- He really loves his brother and sister.
- A recent assessment showed no cognitive deficits.
- His cancer is still gone.
Here are the not-so-great things:
- His language skills were at their pinnacle in early July, but have since deteriorated. He talks a lot more than he used to, but his articulation has gotten poorer, so we have a hard time understanding him, and we usually can't.
- We, along with Edward's doctors, started stretching out the time between IVIg infusions. His infusion was every three weeks, so we moved it to every four weeks, and he was doing so well that we felt invincible, talked about taking out his port soon, and moved his IVIg interval to six weeks. Sadly, he started exhibiting OMS symptoms--falling down, tremors, weepiness/rage, sleep disturbance, drooling, and loss of language skills. He's back down to a three-week IVIg interval, and we will keep hoping and praying that he'll get back the skills he lost and that we will one day be able to wean him off the IVIg.
Something helpful our speech therapist introduced us to that can help when Edward is in regression is the LAMP (Language Acquisition through Motor Planning) app on an iPad. It allows him to push a button with a specific picture and hear the iPad tell us the word he's trying to convey. While we only got to play with it for about a month before we moved, Edward took to it better than the PODD and used it to say things enough times that we know he understands the concept. We're hoping to continue that when we get him set up with therapists in Kalamazoo. It will not be his primary form of communication, but would be so helpful for when he regresses, as is his pattern.
It's late, so I can't make this as long as I'd like to after an eight-month hiatus, but I wanted you to know that I started writing several times, and that one of the reasons I never finished was that Edward kept getting better and then getting worse over and over. I was tired of the ups and downs and I was tired of dragging you on them with me. We have seen God's leading so clearly this year, even in the down times, and we know He has a special plan for Edward's life. We're grateful for your continued prayers for Edward, even when we didn't update the site. They mean a lot to us. I'll sign off by posting just a few pictures, and wishing you a very meaningful and family-filled Sabbath. Jesus is coming soon!

Our prayers are with you. We were so happy to see Edward walking and running at ministerial in August. It's good to see the improvements that is taking place. We will continue to pray for him and your family. God bless you!
This is wonderful news! No cognitive deficits, no cancer, and Edward walking and running!! I'm so very happy! You and Kameron have three beautiful little miracles.
Oh guys, the ups and downs are so okay to share. It is so much harder on you guys, and I just want to know when to celebrate and praise God with you, and when to pray in earnest and praise God even in the storms with you. I love you guys - all five of you, and pray for healing, and praise God the cancer is still gone. Thank you so much for the update.
I am so thankful for the blessings God has bestowed upon you all. I hold to the fact that God does not make mistakes and there is a reason for everything that happens in our lives, though often times we do not understand. One day very soon we will all look back and see clearly why God allowed things to occur in our lives and we will thank Him. We pray continually for Edward and for little Molly and Henry. And I praise God daily for how He has led you and Kameron. Your living testimony has touched so many lives!! God bless you all!!
We are still praying for Edward and your family, Emilie. He is making amazing progress, and someday, the roller coaster will stop. God has wonderful plans for your sweet children, and someday faith will be sight. Just know how very much God loves all of you, and trust Him. We miss you all, but our prayers will always be there to remind our Abba Father that you are loved and in need of His touch.
Thank you for the update. I think often of Edward and his struggles and am praying for all of you!

Thx for the report! Just got to see your parents at church today and got to see James and siblings. (Your parents had their hands full but doing a great job!) Am continuing to pray for Edward, James, and for all of you! Keep trusting in the Lord to carry you thru. ☺️
Thank you for taking the time to update us on Edward. It is so good to see him standing by the fence all by himself and to know that he is walking. It is so good to see Edward's smile! God is so good! We continue to keep Edward and all your family in our prayers. According to God's promise, he will never leave us nor forsake us. Keep trusting in Him.
Edward is on God's hands, our prayers continue and will never stop. Thank you for sharing part of your life with us, Your family and parents are very dear to my heart.
Happy birthday! I admire you Emily. Thank you for sharing your daily life experience, your honesty, your struggles and but also happy moments. You and Cameron have shown a lot of strength in the past years with your three children. Three children, every one is so different and everyone is a jewel and loved by God. Take every day as a blessing and take time and enjoy the little flowers along our pathways. Big hugs for everyone!!!
Your posting the ups and downs of this terrible thing is never bothersome, it's just sharing as God would have us do... but getting time to share with all you have going on is another matter... We're just glad and joyful to see the new photos of the kids! We miss you all, but at the same time we are understanding and confident in God that your ministry is such a blessing to all you come in contact with. Prayers will continue to rise up above to the throne of God.
Three total dolls! God is at work in Edward and through Edward. I see you are doing some equine therapy. This is great for him and it helped my David in his motor skills, but more importantly, his self confidence. Edward is a witness to God's love. David has drawn more people to the love of God through his "deficits" than he ever would have been able to had he had all of his motor, visual, and verbal capacities. We will all see on the "other side" the wonderful other side of the experience and people will come to Edward in heaven and thank him for the witness he has been and will be as he walks his journey and you walk beside him.
Happy Birthday, Edward! Thank you for the update. So happy Edward is doing so much better - God is good and will see you through the ups and down. God bless you all!
Thanks for the update and fabulous photos. So thankful for all the good stuff going on with Edward. Can't believe he is 3 already! Continued prayers for you all. Church is not the same without you guys. Miss you all.
Praying for Edward and your whole family. Thanks for the update.
