Dr. Eric Sullivan Data Science Fund

Hello everyone! It is hard to believe that we recently just passed the 2 month anniversary of Eric's passing. It is still surreal that he is gone. While things are still hard for all of us and his loss is still painful and fresh, we want you all to know that we are eternally grateful for all of your love and support. You letters, stories, cards, love, and strength is what has made the difference, not just for the past 2 months, but throughout Eric's entire journey. Because of all of your love, support, strength, and kindness, we know that there is hope for the future!

Some of that hope comes in the form of the Dr. Eric Sullivan Data Science Fund. You may or may not know that Eric was instrumental in the development of the Carroll College Data Science Program and the development of the curriculum. Data Science was his passion. He loved the mix of mathematics, statistics, computer science, and data analysis. He loved passing along new techniques and ideas and teaching both students and faculty. He also enjoyed teaching students to gather, wrangle, and visualize data; to make predictions based off of past behaviors with machine learning; and deal with the massive data sets of today. Data Science can be used to help solve real world problems. Data Science is a rapidly growing field and can be used in so many industries. For example, after graduating with a degree in data science, students could become a Business Analyst, Data Analyst, Statistician, or an Operations Research Analyst...just to name a few options. 

Eric was always excited to teach and was frequently heard saying "We get to do MATH today!". 

It is that passion for Data Science and Mathematics that we are hoping to instill in the next generation of students. Hopefully we can get the fund up to the endowment level so that Eric may continue to pass along his passion for all things data science for generations to come! And hopefully we will maybe even help develop a few more math nerds!

There are a couple ways that you can help ensure that Eric's legacy lives on in the next generation of students:

1) Saints Giving Day: March 23 from 12 p.m. to March 24 at 12 p.m. Carroll College is hosting Saints Giving Day and Eric's fund is one of the causes that you may choose to donate to. Any one can give: faculty, staff, administration, current students, alumni, family, friends, and more! Any amount helps his fund reach the level needed for endowment. Our goal is to raise $5000 in 24 hours.
