Her humor is intact...

Gracie is looking forward to the NG tube (her feeding tube) being removed from her nose. They will be replacing it with a PEG. This is procedure where a flexible tube is inserted through her abdominal wall directly into her stomach. It eliminates the need for an NG tube (they effectively do the same thing), and will remove the discomfort of having a tube up one's nose.

It is a surgical procedure, but Gracie says she likes surgery! It's the one time she can fall asleep with being disturbed... shows her sense of humor is still intact as she's poked, prodded and turned all day and even in the night. A simple thing like undisturbed sleep is a commodity not just for Grace but for her parents, too.

On a different note, we have a confirmed admittance into Graig Hospital, but a departure date has not yet been set. It will be Monday at the earliest. Bill, Emily, and I will be staying with Gracie for the duration of her rehabilitation... we don't know exactly how long yet, all depends on her progress, but will be 2 to 3 months, possibly more. Emily will enroll in a high school in Denver, but probably in a modified day so that she can participate in Grace's rehabilitation and just give sisterly love.

Thank you all for your love and support,

Debbie

Hang in there! Gracie should be a lot more comfortable without an NG tube! Thankfully, unlike having a tracheotomy, having a g-tube/PEG put in is more of a procedure than a surgery. Usually done under light sedation and as an outpatient, unless the person getting the PEG is already in the hospital. And both the trach and the PEG can be removed when she no longer needs them.

It is SO encouraging and heartwarming to know that Gracie will be in excellent hands and receive the BEST care and therapy that she needs to recover. Having such loving parents and a super supportive sister right there will surely speed up the recovery process!
