Dec 1st, 2012 Post by Kelly Miracle.

After a consult with the critical care doctor and the cardiac surgeon we know what to pray for. The staph infection has caused damage to the mitral valve in his heart. They are hoping that the antibiotics will fight off the infection in his body, especially in his heart. The doctors will be closely monitoring him for the next few days to see if he will be needing heart surgery to replace the valve. Please pray against the infection and that his valve will be healed without surgery. Thank you...[...]

Nov 30th, 2012 7:05pm Post by Kelly Miracle. The rest of the story...

How it all started...Three weeks ago, Harry sustained a groin and back injury while lifting a 350 lb fire pit. For the next two weeks he battled extreme pain and did not seem to improve. On Monday, Debbie drove Harry to the walk-in-clinic because he developed a fever, rash and was very listless. The doctor took one look at him and called an ambulance. He was in the ER for several hours before being admitted to ICU. After many scans, blood tests and MRIs he was taken to surgery for emergency back surgery. (For those who don't know the whole story).[...]

He's getting more scans in an hour. They are checking 3 areas for infection: neck, brain, & spine. The dr. asked us if they couLd give him penicillin. He thinks he had a reaction to it as a child but the antibiotics they're giving him now aren't working. We talked with Harry's brother & he was the one with the allergy. So we are going forward with the doctors and having them administer the penicillin. The dr. feels this is the best drug for Harry's type of infection. Please pray that his body takes this drug well & his scans come back clear. Thank you. We feel your prayers and The Lord is strengthening us.[...]

The blood cultures have come back this morning and the doctors say Harry has a staph infection that is not MRSA. This infection can be treated with antibiotics. He is still in the ICU due to the risk of stroke. He has sustained a series of “mini-strokes” that were caused by debris from the infection attaching itself around the heart and then breaking off, traveling through the blood stream and lodging in his brain. So far he seems to have no residual weakness from the strokes but is being constantly monitored by the awesome ICU nurse/doctor team. Harry will probably be in the ICU for a couple more days and then transferred to a patient floor. He will be on antibiotics for several weeks.[...]

I just got here, they are taking him in for an echocardiogram to make sure his heart is ok. They go down his esophagus with a camera as a precautionary test to make sure he is not at risk for a stroke. His white cell count is down. The infectious disease doctors still can't figure out what type of infection he has. I will keep everyone posted.  Thank you for all your prayers.[...]
