Today we had appointments with both Dr. Wolfe (maternal fetal medicine doctor) and Dr. Mo (cardiologist). We had a blast seeing Dr. Wolfe! Baby Mason was super tired but we got to watch him for a while. We got to see him yawn, show a crying/angry face, and almost suck his toes! We also found out that he weighs one ounce shy of 3 pounds which at 27 weeks put him in the 70th+ percentile.
Dr. Mo's appointments are always a bit more serious. After talking with him we were pleased to hear that the hole in Mason's heart is not shrinking. I say this is good because after he is born, this hole may play a key role in allowing the blood from the chambers to mix providing him with some oxygen while we wait for surgery to take place. If the hole begins to close or is not large enough they will have to go in after birth and perform a balloon atrial septostomy. This would enlarge the hole and allow surgery to take place in week two.
I should hear from the case worker in Boston within the next few days. The plan is for me to visit Boston and meet with the cardiologist and surgical team around week 34, which would be the first week in June. Hopefully I will have more details in the next week or so, but I believe Chris and I will be heading up there around week 38 if all goes as planned.
