Friday Morning, 5AM
(This is Jason hijacking Jane's login again).
Shannon woke up energetic and ready to go. She started planning for the family, now going out several weeks. Then she got hungry and ate a large Belgian waffle with chocolate chips and an omelette. And potatoes.
Later, Dr. Sawaya came by for 5 minutes (neurosurgeon), and said all is going according to plan. He said that last night's MRI looks "very good", and he got as much as there was visible. He was shooting for >90% extraction, and he said, raising his flat hand to his head to show the level, the upper 90's is what was apparently done. He said they always expect a stray occasional cell. I recognize the academic tone and technically cautious scientific language, which I understand to mean "given all the data available, as close to 100% was removed as can be done with this method." He mentioned that within the next 10 days they'll have scheduled her for oncology. So, we are safely and successfully on to stage 2 of this process.
More importantly, Shannon said she now feels like she is truly a tough badass for having made it through this huge surgery so well. The turban and bandages are off, and I have to say, the scar makes her look like a true badass. But don't worry, she still has her sweet side that likes to be pampered too!

Glad to hear that things are progressing as expected and that Shannon is doing so well. She truly is a badass for flying through such a huge surgery with flying colors, and her sense of humor intact.... I'm not sure I would have that sort of stamina... she is an inspiration to us all! Awesome, awesome, awesome, awesome! Shannon is a badass. An inspiration. A superwoman. I have to add that in the past year I've wanted that haircut where you shave the side of your head, and Shannon can now get it. She deserves to look like a rockstar.
Great news! Will continue to pray for a successful recovery for all of you.
