Our Thursday

Anyone who knows me knows that I've never been a morning person. Yet since the pressure in my head started to be relieved, first from the steroids and then from the tumor removal, I've been waking up very early. Most mornings since February 13 I'm up for about an hour doing work on my laptop starting around 5:30 or 6:00, then I sleep for another hour, then I'm up for the day. I never knew how quiet and peaceful it is in the mornings and I'm actually really enjoying having that time either alone or with Jason before the kids wake up. This is like some aspect of life I've just never known about or have been able to enjoy. It's fantastic!

So this morning was the same, up at 5:30, an hour of email and work, then slept for another hour, then up at 7:30. After breakfast and meds I had Jason run me over to MDA to drop off the physician release for the gym. Then I had him take me to buy Ashley's birthday present. Her birthday was February 14, the day I left the hospital in Lubbock. I had decided what to get her but I was too sick to make it to James Avery to pick it up. So today I was finally able to buy it and give it to her, which made me feel like I'd finally accomplished something monumental.

Even though I can't do my workout until the docs sign off, the family went on their own while I caught up with my graduate students via conference call. (By the way, before anyone gives me any crap, the docs said that if I enjoy working remotely then I should continue with whatever makes me happy. And working makes me happy. This might be my most productive year yet.) When the family got home we had some lunch and then Ashley & I walked to the get manicures.

Tonight we hosted Robert who was just stopping through on his way back to Lubbock. So glad he was able to come, we had a wonderful visit, a great dinner out, and he brought my jewelry from home which made me a very happy girl.

So, what's on the agenda for tomorrow? I have a couple of consult visits at MDA in the morning but no big appointments that might result in new news. My Norwegian teaching partner, Kjetil, will be traveling through Houston with a 7 hour layover so we will drive out to the airport and take him to lunch nearby so that we can see him on his way home from his week in Lubbock. Then we'll get back here just in time for me to call into Rawls to hear the graduate student 3rd semester paper presentations.

So, as you can see, we are staying busy with some socializing and some work and a whole lot of having fun!

If work makes you happy, then by all means do it. Sounds like great advice to me. Keep that beautiful mind of yours actively happy or happily active. You decide.
