It's the Weekend!

I haven't posted in a couple of days, mostly because I've been so exhausted. Jane and Kim have agreed to be my training coaches for the 2016 napping competition so I agreed to practice as much as possible. I did awake early to go to my last proton treatment of the week and came straight home to go back to sleep. I even canceled the gym, I was just spent for the week. My biggest challenge this week has been my food struggle. Never in my life have I had trouble getting enough calories into my body. It takes forever to eat when you are just not hungry and nothing tastes good. I don't even understand this. I love food! Someday soon I will be off of chemo temporarily and hopefully I will get my appetite back. This is my next major goal, to be hungry someday!

It's been great having only my brother here because he just does what I ask and doesn't try to make me do things I don't want. I told this to Jason who said that I've had my entire life to train my brother so of course he does what I want. That was right before Jason started telling me what to do, how much to nap, and to try to go to the gym even though I was tired. I don't think Jason picked up on my subtle hint because he had my brother wake up me today to tell me about the call from Frullo. Although I was grateful and happy about the call, I was still in need of rest. Perhaps I should be less subtle next time.

Speaking of John Frullo, please consider sending a note to his office (if you are so inclined) to thank him for intervening in my insurance situation. If you are a state employee, please also consider asking for help in obtaining high quality and equal benefits for all state employees. When I first heard that the insurance denied our initial request, the representative at MDA told me that she had recently handled another case for a woman who needed proton therapy. I do not know who this woman is, but she is the wife of a state employee and she is covered under United Healthcare. As far as I know she hasn't yet received proton therapy. I think about her situation everyday, she could be anyone we know or anyone we work with.

Tomorrow I will be traveling and, as some of you know, I will be in Lubbock for less than 24 hours. I want to be there for Ashley's prom festivities and then I plan to see a limited number of people before heading out early on Sunday to get back to Houston. If I don't get to see you, don't be jealous of those who will, chances are I will fall asleep on them anyway. It will only be another week until we are back in Lubbock for at least two weeks. In January and February I had been working with contractors on a partial house remodel, basically the entryway fourier, half bath, dining room, living room, stairwell, and hallway. The last carpeting was being installed on the stairs the very day I had surgery. I have no idea if the entryway rug ever arrived. I'm dying to see it! Not getting to see the final product of a major project is torture! My luck the dog has already had his way with the new carpet and Pancake has rooted up all the tile. I guess in the grand scheme of things this is a minor issue, but I will have to spend a lot of time in the house upon my return. If I already spent all the time and money on it months ago, I may as well enjoy it! Everyone have a great weekend- I will keep everyone updated on my training for the napping competition.

So glad you have had some time just you and your brother, but happy you will be in Lubbock for a short visit -- prom seems as good a reason as any! You will be in my thoughts and I wish a peaceful journey for you. I'll wait my turn to see you, but know that you are always in my prayers!

I'd seriously thought about setting up a "sleep-cation" place where I even hooked "guests" up to hydration bags and gave them super absorbent depends (so no pesky getting up for water or the potty). Once I get it down we should combine forces!! 😜

With treatments coming to a halt for now, you rest a lot. Your body needs to catch up. You are my awesome girl and I am proud of you. Hopefully I will see you before long after my appointments then Bob and I are looking forward to getting there fall/winter or certainly sooner if needed. Just say the word. We love you. Bob said 'tell our tough girl to hang in there!'

I miss you and think of you and the guys everyday. Your blog is as funny as it is informative. I hope it brings you some giggles, too. I wish this hadn't happened to you, but I'm so proud of the way you are carrying this insurance situation on for everyone. Love you! lee
