We're not getting LITT just yet

Well, we met with the LITT expert on Wednesday, although he was adamant that he is a neurosurgeon, not the "LITT guy." So, of course, from here on out that's how I will refer to him. He's now "Dr. LITT." Clearly no one warned him about me. He wasn't my favorite doctor ever but it actually doesn't matter because he said I'm not a good candidate for the procedure. Basically, my little spots are too close to vascular structures and ventricles. These structures are full of blood or cerebral spinal fluid, which will cool down the laser. Since the laser uses heat to kill the problematic cells, if the heat is cooled by these structures, the procedure becomes less effective.

I know what you guys are thinking. Why didn't I like him? Well, first off, he has no sense of humor. He came in wearing cowboy boots so I asked him if he was "headed to the rodeo." He explained that he wears boots everyday. So then I asked if he has a giant hat and he said yes, along with a giant longhorns belt buckle, and a large truck. He said, "People ask me why an Indian from India has a big truck and I say, 'Because it's Texas.'" For a minute I thought he was going to be more interesting than it seemed, but he said all of that with no emotion whatsoever. Just very matter of fact. He never cracked a smile at any of my awesome jokes. I usually can charm anyone. This guy was impossible! Turns out he just takes himself very seriously. I've been spoiled by the doctors with social skills in addition to ego. This guy was 100% ego. I've been telling Dr. No Naps that they need to hire me to cheer on patients in the waiting room. Instead, I'm going to pitch the idea that a I hold a charm school/ social skills/ comedy training course for the staff. This guy needs to be the first student enrolled!

So here we are back where we were last week, waiting to see what's happening next. The extra time has allowed me to focus on self care like exercise and meditation, finish some grading, write some letters of recommendation, and attend several meetings via Skype. I love that I can still do my job!

I like your charm school idea. You should pitch the idea to the med school here. Perfect it. And then attack---oops, charm--Dr. LITTS.

I was just reading an article about how Grey's Anatomy has made Dr's lives miserable as patients now expect them to have personalities and be witty and charming or at least interesting. Poor things.

This guy was extra special. Not just not personable. But yeah, there is an expectation that the doctor listen to the patient or notice that there is a patient in the room.

My MDA doctor wears boots and Texas Pride like a second skin, AND seems to have a sense of humor. I got lucky.
