Waiting...
It has been a week since we were admitted into the hospital. Luckily, Sofia has continued to be fever free with no signs of an infection. We are just waiting for her counts to go up. Normally you need to reach an ANC of 500 to be discharged but the doctors just want her over 100 and rising and we can go. When we arrived on Wednesday we were at 20 so we thought 100 would come quickly but it's been 7 days and we are only at 40!!! The good news is that Sofia feels great! She's not even getting IV fluids so we are literally just living at the hospital. She's bored and over our room but I can't blame her. Given that we will be re-admitted once her counts hit 750 to start new chemo, we might only get a couple of days at home. We are going to make them great days!!!
With baby Noni getting bigger (5 months yesterday) things are a bit tricky because of naps and bed time. We have him in a great routine at home where he naps and sleeps in his crib with a bedtime of 7pm. In order to keep this up, Mike has been staying at home with him every night. During the day we pop open our pack and play and throw on the sound machine. He continues to just go with the flow and be the best baby ever! Last night we convinced Sofia to let mommy go home with the baby for one night and let daddy have a sleep over in the hospital. I was a nervous wreck driving away, not because Mike can't handle it, but because what if something happened and I wasn't there. Of course, everything was fine. I took a long shower and slept in our amazingly comfortable bed! Today Sofia said mommy I think I want daddy to stay again, and don't worry he doesn't let me watch shows at bedtime (with a huge smile on her face)! Mike was cracking up.
Though it's not always fun to be at the hospital, today has turned out to be a pretty good day. Sofia got to see and play with one of her friends who was in clinic for a check up. These kids go through so much but play in the halls like nothing is going on! Then after lunch we went up to the play room where the "Star Wars Guys" came to visit. Sofia loved it!! She was waving and giving high fives to Darth Vader and the Storm Troopers. Daddy and Noni had fun too!!
So we will continue to wait, think good thoughts and have fun!
