More Forks, Less Spoons

Good Evening.

I am happy to report that Chad's stent replacement went very well today. Since today's procedure meant back to back days under general anesthesia he is tired and has a sore throat but overall he's feeling pretty good. He is also very happy that he has a few days away from the hospital to relax and recuperate.

This stent replacement is very important for Chad. The reason for his rapid weight loss was due to the near total blockage of the opening from his stomach to his small intestine (duodenum) meaning food could make it to the stomach but go no further so unfortunately it always came back up. Once this was discovered Chad was placed on a full liquid only diet including things like boost, ensure, smoothies, applesauce and ice cream. That was 42 days ago.

On March 28th a temporary stent was placed and the opening widened enough to allow Chad to add scrambled eggs, mashed potatoes and soft, plain pasta. A more custom, longer term stent was ordered that day and today he was able to receive it. This stent will slowly open over the next few days and Chad will be able to return to eating solid food. He won't be able to eat everything, he will have to be careful not to clog the stent but he will have a lot more options and will be able to enjoy some of his favorites very soon. Putting some weight back on and gaining some strength are going to be very helpful as he begins chemotherapy on Monday. We will finally be able to accept all of your offers to bring food!

Thank you all for your continued support! We love you all!

Has anyone set up a meal train or schedule? If not I’d be happy to help with that but obviously don’t want to duplicate efforts. Love you guys!

Thank you for your offer Krista! We've had to hold off on meals since Chad was on the liquid only diet for so long. He is working toward a more typical solid food diet now and once he is able to eat more variety I'll let everyone know and we can set up some meals in the calendar section of this page. Thanks again!

That’s great news!! A little milestone that goes along way I’m sure, so glad to hear it! Will Cappy’s be on the approved list?! 😉 So chemo will be starting up Monday? What does that look like at first, is it daily trips to the James?
