~ Reflection from Jeff and Naomi Harm ~

It has been a very trying few days this week. They have slowly decreased Jake's sedative medication to allow him to wake up on his own. The process has been very slow, but subtly signs of some movements- this is good. As of yesterday, April 15th Jake slightly opened one eye as Jeff and Heather were talking gentally to Jacob. Heather moved around the hospital bed, and it appeared has if Jacob was following/tracking her with his eye. Today he has had more subtle eye movements and squeezing of our hands as we hold Jacob's hands.

Another fever has set in today though, and is not necessarily caused by an infection but the pressures of his brain trying to control his whole body. We are told this is normal with a brain trauma, and many scheduled fevers will occur over the next weeks.

Jake was also schedule for surgery as of yesterday, but was delayed due to the onset of a fever late afternoon and his current brain condition as he needs to heal more. They in return of proceeding with surgery- provided a washout cleaning to his leg wounds and rebandaged him back up.

We are trying our best to stay postive. The smallest gains in Jacob's condition seem like huge victories right now, but the setbacks are so very painful as we sit and watch....and wait.

19 birthday candle

Jacob will turn 19 years old on April 19th on Saturday. We will be celebrating his golden birthday with him in the hospital in El Paso, Texas. Please light a candle for Jacob on Saturday, and celebrate with him in spirit by sending postive well wishes for his recovery.

Your presence with him probably brings more healing for Jake than any of us ever know. We send prayers daily for you to have strength to carry you through this and we have faith that Jake will pull through this! Stay strong and have patience - those small steps for him are so crucial. Hugs to all! Nan & Jerry

Please know that my church family, eNetColorado, and my family continue to pray for complete healing. I so understand the tiny steps forward and often stalled due to fevers. Our bodies and brains are so unique. Your Jacob is a fighter and I know that he will soon be quite alert. Many hugs and prayers for all of you.
