~ Written by Jeff and Naomi Harm ~

It is Easter Friday and our Jacob has been taken into surgery this morning to start the rebuild of his legs. Due to the severity of the situation, they are going to take the surgeries in small sections at a time, and first work on one of his femurs to rebuild, pin, bolt, plate and skin graph today. We have no idea how long the surgery will last. It depends on Jake's tolerance to endure the surgery and his ability to maintain strong vitals that are at a safe level.

By then end of the day on Thursday, April 17th by 8PM Jake had slightly opened his eyes as if to achknowledge us when we spoke gentally to him. He was trying to squeeze our fingers has we held his hands. This small bit of hope of a physical change was amazing. He is still sedated with heavy pain medications- as the pain is so severe, and when they try to decrease the sedative medication his breathing patterns become quite intense and his blood pressure spikes. For now they want him comfortable, relaxed and no extra exertion to set him back with progress made.

Continuing prayers being sent your way. Knowing that he is squeezing his hands, is wonderful. I remember Katie doing that. She told us that she could hear us, but couldn't speak so she squeezed her hands so that we would know.
