Slow Down, Girl!
The hardest thing for me as I finish my hospital stay and head home will probably be to be conscious of not pushing myself too hard.
My goal is to be able to walk the beach by mid July and not to have to be on a “ride-along” during a family bike ride by then. I think those are manageable goals.
On another note, I guess there has been talk in the operating room about how busy I’ve been from my hospital bed — there is probably lots of time to chitchat while orthopedics and plastics are sharing surgeries.
So, Dr. Bowen, my orthopedic oncologist surgeon, showed up with Kara, his head nurse. They burst into my room in their clown hats and leis shouting something like, “We heard there’s a party going on in room 835!” You can probably tell from my huge smile that I adore this team.
The other surgeon is Dr. Devitt, from plastics. He is a really good guy too. His resident surgeons have been amazing. They are the cream of the crop, as this residency program is one of the hardest to get into on the country.
I was so tickled when one of the residents told me that the group of surgeons in training were talking about me and they decided they would have liked to just have me in their lives as a friend.
That is what it’s all about, right. Building relationships wherever we are and whoever God places in our lives. Making a difference whether it’s a butterfly flutter or a bulldozer effect. Just kidding. Let’s not bulldoze. 😂🤪😍 It’s been quite an experience relying on strangers for even my basic necessities, humbling really. But these nurses and doctors weren’t strangers for long. I had many heart to heart conversations and feel so connected that it’s almost weird to think I’ll never see most of them again.
Thanks again for helping me keep up a good attitude and praying me through this little storm!
PS — The last photo is of the book marks I made yesterday for some bookish events
