October 14, 2012

This past week has been extremely busy.  While the beginning of the week didn't start out to well, the end of the week was very successfull.  Anne went to chemo teach on Friday and met with the Oncologist.  We found out a lot of useful information that is a bit overwhelming but its also reassuring to know all of these facts beforehand instead of finding everything out as we go along.  Some things have become easier for us, while others are becoming more difficult as time goes on, but we are all gettng used to our new life, and it is starting to get less chaotic.  Everyone's prayers and support are truly a blessing and help us get through every day tasks that used to seem so easy and are now difficult to get through.

Anne woke up Saturday morning and was extremely confused.  She had "blacked out" an entire day.  She admitted that she had been having small "black outs" randomly on occaison, but she had never blacked out an entire day.  She had no idea what went on the entire day on Friday and did not remember going to any of her appointments.  She was very upset and concerned about this.  I have a family friend who had a loved one suffering with cancer, so I asked her if it was normal for Anne to go through this.  Her response was that it is very normal for someone with cancer, who is going through as much as Anne has been for the past month, to have black outs and even black out entire days.  We are going to inform her doctor, but I am not sure how much he will be able to do for this, as there is a lot more that is more important at this point in her treatment.

She still seems to be having a lot of confusion, and we are not sure how much of it is the pain medicine and how much is the cancer just making her confused.  The doctors have decreased her pain patch once again, and it is now at the same dosage she started on.  He also increased her nausea medications and added a medication to increase her appetite.  It has been a struggle to get her to eat, and at this point, drink a lot, if anything at all.  We have been giving her the apetite medicine and she has been slowly eating more and more throughout the day.  We have gone to eating smaller meals more frequently to constantly keep something in her stomach so she may not feel as much nausea during the day.  This should get better over time as treatments start to take effect.

Tomorrow we start our journey with chemo.  It is nervracking and exciting at the same time.  I know Anne is very nervous about the treatment, as is everyone else.  We are relieved that treatment is finally starting to go into full swing.  Anne has been experiencing less pain thanks to the radiation therapy, and this should just continue to get better over time.

That's all for now, I will post another update to let everyone how her treatment goes tomorrow.  Keep your fingers crossed!!
