Chief of Police: Ben Anderson

Please forgive me if you've already seen this news on Facebook.  I know not everyone has Facebook and this this was such a fun day for Ben that I wanted to share with everyone who is following our story.

On Wednesday, January 9, Ben was sworn in as Chief of the Reno PD for the day!  He had an amazing morning with the department, driving around town, pulling over a bad guy and putting one in a jail cell, taking a donut break, shooting a taser, hopping on a motorcycle and loving on Julio the police dog.  The day ended at the Reno City Council meeting where a proclamation was read celebrating the amazing ways our dear Ben is defying the odds and living his life to the fullest.  January 9, 2019 was declared Ben Anderson Day and all three local news channels were there to cover the story.  It's pretty fun to watch all three stories because they each takes a different angle and together tell the full story well.

We again want to say thank you to Pat Cashell, Chief Jason Soto, and officer Travis Warren for making Chief Ben's day amazing! We are so grateful for these wonderful opportunities we have to fill Ben's bucket and for the individuals who make this moments possible!  

On another note, I skied yesterday- the same runs that Ben has been skiing blind- and I tried to close my eyes and link 4-5 turns together just to try to get a small sense of what it must be like for Ben.  I could not do it.  I think I barely made three a couple of times but opened my eyes every time before I wanted to feeling the need to orient myself to the slope and my surroundings. In this moment, I was even more amazed by Ben's resilience and determination.
