Laura’s 10pm Sunday update

I hadn’t planned to update today but here I am with a report.
Today Liza’s “other mother” had to return to the mountains, and several of the Burke family along with my UGA friends left the inlet. But before everyone left, we toured St Augustine, raced the drawbridge, and danced unabashedly amongst strangers #LiveLikeLiza

Fortunately my sister and AVL bestie and their husbands arrived in time to enjoy roasted oysters harvested from the inlet yesterday while roseate  spoonbills flew over the dock. At 8:30 tonight, as we gave thanks for Liza bringing us together for our meal, we looked into the sky and saw the SpaceX soaring past!

Also notable today: Liza’s corneas (and perhaps complete eyes) did qualify for donation. We eagerly look forward to learning that a recipient has been identified.

Today I’ve transitioned from creating Liza and Edie’s Educational Fund to working on plans for a Liza-appropriate memorial in Asheville. Stay tuned. Thankfully her friends already have plans in place for an intimate gathering in Athens after graduation. Huge thanks to everyone who continue to offer abundant love to Liza’s extended family, near and far.

I’m glad you had a chance to enjoy the oldest city, that for now I call home. It was a beautiful day! I want to Thank you for graciously donating Liza’s eyes, so another can see. I hope the recipient views the world with the same excitement, joy and wonder that Liza did. Through another, she will live on! Continued prayers for all that knew and loved your beautiful Liza.💗 ~a Transplant Recipient and a mama that understands your loss, all too well.
