Laura’s 3pm Wednesday update
It’s the first moment that I’ve been fully alone since arriving at the inlet. Bryan is at work and Jack and Elli are at the grocery. Liza’s dad and uncle are at the beach, and our final guests left today. I find myself incredibly grateful for the love and support and beauty that has surrounded us. So much has been accomplished in the last few days to insure that, in Athens and in Asheville, Liza will be remembered with the same love and zest for life that she carried in her lifetime - and undoubtedly still evokes in the next realm. Thank you to ALL who are making that possible!
A couple nights ago Bryan and two friends and I boated to a nearby restaurant. After a drink and a bite, we motored back against the wind, but the water was oddly calm. I felt one of those rare moments when I’m surrounded by the divine. I didn’t say anything but put my arm around my friend’s shoulder for the short ride. When we docked and unloaded, my friend said something to the effect of, “that was mystical, like God was with us.” Her words confirmed what I had felt.
Yesterday evening, Bryan and I went out on the boat at low tide for some exploring. Just as I was lamenting (in my head) not having seen any wildlife, a pod of dolphins appeared. We stopped the boat and watched several, including a baby, swim gracefully and slowly around our boat. All I could do other than stare was cry and thank Liza for her reassurance.
Tomorrow we’re off to Athens. We will miss tonight’s ceremony for the business school graduates but Friday night we’ll watch with thousands of proud families in Sanford Stadium as Liza is recognized for her degree and granted a moment of silence. My mother, GranKitty, is unable to attend but will be linked so that she can livestream it with friends in Asheville.
So until I update again, cheers to accomplishments and blessings great and small!
