MONDAY, NOVEMBER 13

We arrived at hospital at 8:00 am and headed to have the FMRI performed.  All went well … Brian is amazing!  He wanted to see the results of the FMRI.  He asked great questions.  The Doctor walked in and asked Brian … how are you?  Brian said, more importantly, how are you?  He asked if the doctor was well rested.  LOL  He cracked everyone up including the doctor. They took him on time at noon to get him prepped for surgery starting at approximately 1:00 pm.  And … here we wait!  Please continue to pray, pray, pray!

2:20 pm

Nurse called and updated us that they had removed the first spot above the ear and sent it to Pathology.  They were proceeding to continue to remove as much tissue from the second site which is slightly above the initial spot.

3:45 pm

Nurse called and said the surgery is over.  They are beginning the procedure to close.  They got a sample of what was behind the initial tumor and sent it pathology.  Waiting for surgeon to come out and talk to Bob and Lydia as what the next steps are.  Will most likely be another hour or so.

5:30 pm

The surgeon met with Bob and Lydia.  He removed as much of the tumor as he could.  He confirmed that it is a tumor and not an infection.  It will be 3-4 days before complete pathology is done.  They will not know what type of tumor until then and cannot determine course of treatment until then.  The surgeon is confident that the surgery did not affect any major speech or motor centers.  Brian will be heavily sedated at least until tomorrow and they expect him to be hospitalized for 3-4 days.  He will have a post CT scan and MRI tonight and tomorrow.

It is not surprising that Brian tried to make the doctor feel at ease. He has an amazing wisdom and knack with people beyond his years. I felt so fortunate to have had him as my student for three years. Prayers and love to all of you!
