Slow and Steady

Well, you are stuck with me for at least one more update but I must start by thanking all for stepping up to the request for prayers to get Lee’s pain under control and allow to get some rest last night.  I had not seen or heard her so uncomfortable in over 20 years since right after her first spinal fusion surgery when they had just placed the bolts and screws necessary for securing the cervical halo to her skull.  Thankfully, by this morning she was quick to share that your prayers and her care team had brought her pain down to much more tolerable levels and even allowed her to get some blocks of much needed sleep.

The rest of the day was action-packed as they had to place an additional central line in order to accommodate IV nutrition while we await the necessary healing to begin testing the new feeding tube.  She will have her first round of the new IV “formula” tonight since she’s now been without any significant nutrition for several days.  She was able to get up and walk around the hallway a couple of times today but, as you might expect less than 24 hours after surgery, it comes at a cost with elevating her pain levels.  It’s pretty challenging for her to move around with multiple pumps, lines, and hoses so please pray for her continued perseverance as she sets personal goals to help try and get all of her “systems” working again after surgery.

Thanks again for all of your prayers, notes, texts, and the many other ways you make us both feel so loved and supported.  We’ll do our best to keep you updated as the journey continues on what we pray is a steady, even if slow, road to recovery.

Steve
