World Adoption Day

Happy World Adoption Day! We thought this would be a good day for an update! 

One of my most favorite conversations about adoption that has come about with Kira is how the Bible says when we trust in Jesus we become one of God’s children and we are adopted into God’s family. She will tell you, however, that she has been adopted two times. She thinks that that is pretty special since her mom and dad are only adopted one time. 

We don’t have any more information at this point about when Evelyn is coming home. I have been asked almost every day if she is still coming home in December, but to clarify, December was never a date we were told or could plan on. It was just when a dad, eager to hold his daughter, thought would be a good time for her to come home. David proclaimed December as a hope, but it’s highly unlikely for that to happen. 

What we’re waiting for now is a court date. After the court makes the legal declaration of us as Evelyn’s parents, then they can prepare her a birth certificate and a passport. Those documents make it possible for her to actually travel home with us. The last estimate from court to travel was 2-3 months. At this point we wait for a court date and then estimate travel after that. We are sad that the wait goes on, but we are relieved at the idea of traveling when ticket prices will be lower. We discovered that tickets in December would run $8,000-$9,000 for a family of three—twice the usual cost at another time. We will pay whatever we need to pay when it’s time to go, but if we have to look for a bright side then I guess that is one!

We’ve been super excited to receive a few more photos and videos in the last couple weeks. It makes it feel so much more real. We are eagerly awaiting any news on court and will post as soon as we get the good news!
