March 14, 2014: We're still here.

There's really not much to report today, except that we know we will have at least one more report from here tomorrow. Here's why...

Over the course of ten and a half hours last night, Edward received his first intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) infusion. As it was concluding this morning, he had what was most likely a reaction to the IVIg--a significant increase in his heart rate and respirations, and a slight and occasional dip in his oxygen saturation. He was put on a bit of oxygen and given some Tylenol. He caused a lot of bustle and worry, but was completely back to normal and off the oxygen within two hours and has not shown signs of distress all day since then.

The hematology/oncology team was convinced it was directly related to the IVIg, and were happy to let us go home today. The surgical team under whose service we remain, however, knowing how many chances they have given Edward to acquire an infection this week thought it best to run blood tests, culture his central line, and keep us here at least overnight for observation.

Thus begins our second consecutive Sabbath in Helen DeVos Children's Hospital. On a positive note, praise God Edward doesn't really need to be here!

Thank you all for your prayers and encouraging messages. Happy Sabbath!

Happy Sabbath from me too!!! Many more are praying for Edward this evening. Tonight I spoke to the Nigerian church here in Berrien Springs, which meets in Seminary Hall. I told members of the group about Edward, and so more prayers are ascending. Our God is still the Master of life and the Healer of every affliction!

So, sorry you were not able to go home today. I know you were looking forward to being able to spend the Sabbath at home. I am glad that Edward is doing better but I also understand why the Doc's might want to keep him just a little longer. Edward has caused them all a little more excitement than they need. Continue to keep him and the family in prayer. Praying by tomorrow night all will be sleeping in your own beds. Have a blessed day.

Sweet Emily, Praying that this Happy Sabbath day will be filled with blessings for all of you. I have prayed this morning that all reports will come back with positive results and you and little Edward will finally be released to go home. I applaud the surgeons for being cautious, though I know how much you and Edward want to be in your own familiar surroundings. Lord Jesus, this morning I am claiming Your promises in Jer. 33:6 and Jer 33:3 and Psalms 50:15 for Edward, Your precious child who has been so ill. Only You know what is best for him and I place him into Your Hands, as always, trusting You to bring this illness to complete cure as You did in the days when You walked the streets of Jeruselem and Nazareth. Bring happiness and contentment to this child and Glorify Your Name as You continue to work miracles in the life of this precious family. I praise Your Name and give You all Honor and Glory and thank You for the Love You alone can give. I thank You for being here for Kameron and Emily and leading and guiding the physicians and nurses as they tended to the needs of Edward. Jesus, You are the Light of the World and I am humbled to be Your servant. I pray that You continue to use Kameron and Emily in a mighty way to finish this work and I pray that Henry and Edward will be used by You as well. Thank You again for all You have done. In Your Holy Name I pray, and I thank You for hearing and answering my prayer this morning. Happy Sabbath Jesus. Amen.
