Another Milestone Met and One Last Wisconsin Adventure
Eric finished another regimen of radiation therapy in La Crosse, Wisconsin this past week caping off the 6 week trip that became more like 8 weeks. I can't imagine what a relief it must have been for him to finally ring the "I'm Done" bell after the last session on Friday. Mom, Dad and I are so grateful to have had them so close by for that time and it was certainly hard to see them leave yesterday... BUT, we are SO happy for them that it is finally time to head back home to Montana!! Hard to say if the therapy did what it was supposed to ... it was a hail mary opportunity and the true outcome will be measured in time.
Of course, in expected Eric fashion, we did find time for one more adventure before they headed west. Thanks to the efforts of some wonderful neighbors, we were able to secure an adaptive bike so Eric could get some peddling in. Frist time on a bike for him in a long time... What a blast! We set out together on the bike, with J riding escort on a second bike, to roll along the La Crosse marsh (swamp... J says so... it supports trees) trails and venture into Riverside Park along the Mississippi River downtown. We nicknamed the terribly heavy contraption "Will daBeast" and determined that despite having no battery/motor, it did have "E assist" (get it? .... Eric was pedaling with me... "E" assist... bad, right?).
we had lots of smiles and laughs, got lots of stares from the people we passed, enjoyed "Wisconsin sweat" (thanks for that Fina) and the wind in our faces. Anyone who's a cyclist knows just how good that wind feels... so glad Eric got to feel that again!
