Head for the Cure 5K - Kansas City
It's hard to believe that the Head for the Cure 5K was almost two weeks ago! I'm very overdue in writing this post!
For the second year, my family and I decided to participate in the Head for the Cure 5K event here in Kansas City. Head for the Cure is an organization committed to defeating brain cancers of all types. They are a great organization that helps fund research and helps "build awareness, raise funds, and ignite hope" for the patients, caregivers, and families dealing with a brain tumor diagnosis. The event is a fantastic opportunity to be surrounded by many people passionate about and dealing with brain cancer! This year's event raised $550,000!
This year, Eric and J made the last-minute decision to fly to KC and tackle the walk with us. We were pretty excited to be together and celebrate how far Eric has come on his journey. I think he would admit that walking a 5K just a few weeks after radiation round 2 was a little daunting, but he was determined. Sporting his newest AFO (ankle foot orthotic) and his trekking poles, our small Sullivan Strong group set out on the course to make record braking time. Just kidding! Joined by our cousin Karee, we set out on the course with the intent to finish. That's it!
And despite the downpour that greeted us in the morning and the race delay - the Sullivan Strong team came, saw, and conquered!
After the race, there is always a special ceremony honoring survivors, care providers, and healthcare workers, making a difference. I was thrilled to be able to honor both Eric and J to commemorate Eric's fight and J's strength. I've included a picture of their nomination and awards. I do believe J said something like "well, sh*t now I'm going to cry" when her name was announced.
After the race, naps were had by all!

WOW!!! You both are expressing the courage to BE!! Thank you for sharing and let us hope for success in next treatments, albeit without a 5K immediately following so you can recup!
Thanks for the update. Blessings on your entire family. Eric is fortunate to have all of you….
The duo was here for a BRIEF visit but I missed them. Next time...! As always, thanks for the update...And I love seeing the whole fam!
It’s impossible to write a comment worthy of how you Sullivan Strongs inspire me, each other, family, warriors and your communities. I see you writing your own story, undeterred. This is especially touching. Thanks for sharing.
