Lights out and Christmas music
Today is another day of learning for both Gracie and us. When Gracie is awake she's typically uncomfortable trying to communicate her needs. Today, for example, through blinks I finally got her rested: she wanted lights out, Christmas music, and me to rub her forehead. She's trying hard through the sensations she's feeling, bless her heart. Bill got good respite and care today through some good friends.
We continue to covert your prayers and thank you all for the huge outpouring of love and support. Emily reads your posts to Gracie, and we love it when we see her smile.
Love, Debbie

By andy radford — Dec 28, 2014 7:00pm Hi Gracie (and you too Emily!). I've been thinking of you through the last few days, and I'm so happy that you have the family and your entire community supporting you. Reading the posts shows the love directed at you, and demonstrates the effects your own talents and amazing energy make on everyone with whom you connect. We are all with you--all of the time. Please know how much you are loved! I'm smiling just thinking about you. Whenever you can, please keep your own smile going. It's powerful medicine for such an energized person. By Donna Benton — Dec 27, 2014 1:29pm Grace & Emily, I want to paint you a mental picture : ) You have actually both been to the spot where I went hiking today near Red Rocks when you both were here for a visit some years ago. So today there is beautiful white snow everywhere, the green of bushes & trees peek through. The deep dust-red of the red rocks looks stunning with the ice crystals hanging down. The sun is very bright and the sky is cool blue, the air is crisp. The world looks beautiful. I believe in time you will get to see and feel all this. I think your struggle now will require perseverance. I know you have this as you have accomplished so much musically so far. Just remind yourself "I can do it, I will be strong." We believe in you Grace Fisher! We send big hugs & kisses to you, Emily, your mom and dad. By Darice Ratliff — Dec 27, 2014 1:28pm Gracie girl we love you and your whole family. Prayers and thoughts are abounding. God is good and he will do great and mighty things through and around you. I ask for wisdom for the doctors, and strength, patience, comfort and peace for you all during this time. I know it's hard and I can't even imagine what you all are going through but you are an amazing family. I pray father God for a supernatural healing. I pray for clarity and strength. I ask for provision. I ask that you wrap your loving arms around the fishers. In the name of Jesus By Meredith Brace — Dec 27, 2014 12:47pm Gracie, your mom is one of my favorite people to play volleyball with, and if a past post is true and you possess a fraction of her positive attitude and energy, you are sure to recover soon. By Brianna Gilman — Dec 27, 2014 12:35pm Gracie, You are one of the strongest people I know and I have never once doubted your courage. Keep on fighting and know that, no matter what happens, you will always have your friends and family behind you. Praying for you, Brianna By Gerrie — Dec 27, 2014 12:21pm Hi cello partner, I am so glad to see you resting and focusing on getting better. This is the challenge of a lifetime, huh? Please know that I think of you every hour of every day and pray for your recovery! Gerrie By Patti Gaultney — Dec 27, 2014 12:11pm Grace, We think about you every day. Jeff asks several times a day, any updates? A year and half ago, Jeff inexplicably lost his ability to move, speak and swallow. It was weeks before he received a diagnosis of a rare neurological condition. During that time, the love, warmth and prayers we received from First United Methodist, our family and community kept us going and gave us hope. I hope you and your family can feel how much we care about you and may God's Love envelope you all during this time. God Bless. Your optimistic spirit will help you during this trying time! We are praying for the speediest recovery for you! By Claire Pendergast — Dec 27, 2014 1:33am Gracie, Keep working to communicate. I know it's so frustrating, but you can do it. Your family will start to get use to your regular requests and then they will know the right yes and no questions to ask. It's a learning curve for everyone. When I saw you in Boston this summer, I was going through a similar situation with my brother who got an infection that went septic and he ended up on a ventilator and was paralyzed for 3 months. During those three months we started to get use to his regular requests and then knew what to ask and he would blink his answers. After a couple weeks they switched him to a tracheotomy and then that allowed him to get air to his vocal cords after a week or so and was able to talk again. It was so great to hear his voice again and I know we'll all be hearing yours again soon!! Now it's been 6 months for my brother and I know he had a different condition than you, but he's walking, talking and driving. So keep the faith!!! You are so strong and you have so many people praying for you! You have the absolutely best family anyone could ask for and your parents, sister and grandparents are incredible!! We love you and can't wait to see you dance, sing, and play guitar and piano again soon!! I know I'll be running into you strolling down Newbury Street again very soon! We love you!! John, Claire, Mae and Quinn By Karen Wieder — Dec 27, 2014 12:50am Debbie, I hope you are taking care of yourself, too. I know how hard it is to do this, but necessary!
