Columbine Visit & The Race With Grace THIS SUNDAY
Greetings from Craig,
I have a story to share about Columbine High School. Most people are aware of the tragedy that took place at that school around 15 years ago. That horrific event gave rise to a leadership class where each year, students choose a topic and make it their cause. This year, one group in the class picked "living in a wheel chair." Part of their project included outreach to Craig Hospital, and the group visited me in my room to learn my story. They also wanted to help, and they flew my longtime friend, Colette Brown, out to Craig for a visit. It was great seeing her and catching up, and I am very thankful to the students of Columbine being a part of my story. Below is a picture of Colette and the Columbine students with me:

I have also been following The Race With Grace event scheduled for the 26th. Me and my family are grateful for all the support, and truly honored that people have taken the time and effort to show they care. I hope those that are participating have a great time this weekend!
Over the last several weeks I have had visits from Mackenzie Monroe, Liam Cetti, Hannah Seabury, Gabe Reali, Kimmy Madden, Devon Fitzgibbons and Hannah Robinson, plus my cousins Ben and Elizabeth from Texas. It has really helped to get a break from all the hard rehab work.
Finally I want to give thanks to my cousin Dan Kilgore who organized all the "Ballers" to play on my behalf last weekend. It brings me happiness to know how much people care.

Love seeing your picture and hearing from you. Loved hearing about your story with the group from Columbine. They are an inspiration and of course, so are you. Jeff and I look forward to the Race with Grace this weekend. We continue to hold you in our thoughts and prayers. Patti and Jeff
That's an awesome story Gracie, about the kid's from Colombine. What a great project they started and it sounded like you had a fun visit with them. We are going to have a great time this Sunday! The last couple of months have been busy planning, but it's well worth the reward of being able to fund an accessible van for you and your family. We saw the one that you liked the best...now all it needs is some chrome tail pipes because it looked very sporty and fast! We are looking forward to your return. Keep up the great work you are doing! GOOOOOOOO GRACIE!!! Love Rayanna, Scott and Cadyn
Grace-I LOVE the story about the Columbine kids coming to visit you and flying your friend out to see you! I'll never forgot the Columbine incident....it had a nation glued to its television sets, not unlike the events of 9/11. Sadly, there have been so many copy-cat school shootings since then that people have become somewhat numb to them. I'm glad to see that the school itself honors the victims each year and can do something that is meaningful for others. I hope the rehab is going as planned and that you are making the progress that you hope for. I know you have been working very hard....you have become an inspiration to so many. We are hoping to get to visit you in early July. I'm not sure where you will be at that time. We have a family reunion in Nebraska and will be flying in via Denver. If you are still at Craig, we'll visit you there. After the reunion, we will be heading to CA for a vacation. If you are back in SB by then (hopefully!) we will head up there to visit you. Please know that we are thinking and talking about you all the time. We are routing for you! -Krista (and Bart, Julia and Megan)
Cool story on so many levels. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share some of your doings. Grace
To Our Girl Gracie, Such a cool story and picture! Loved it. Can't wait to hang with you back in "the 'hood" at some point soon. Love, The Foxes
Gracie: How great to read about the project from Columbine H.S. and that you have had so many visits from your friends here. We love seeing the pictures of you and know how hard you are working every day from the progress you have already made. Keep smiling! Love, John/Sue Z.
Gracie, how lucky for the Columbine students to get to to meet you. I spoke to your grandmother yesterday and she said that you are making progress. Keep up those guitar scale and arpeggio visualizations. I know they work. And as Dan Fox said, we can't wait to have you back in the "hood" at some point. Love, Debbie and Steve
Dear Grace - How incredible that the Columbine students were able to coordinate a visit from Colette. What a nice treat! And how wonderful the number of visitors that you have had. Always thinking of you and praying for your recovery. Slow and steady wins the race. Sending our love, hugs and kisses. The Gaitan Family
Dear Gracie, I'm so glad that the kids from Columbine were able to pay you a visit. We live less than 1/2 mile from Columbine and both my sons went to high school there. Now my grandson Addison is a sophomore there. I love that they are paying it forward. Our whole community banded together to see those kids through a really tough time. Although these particular students were babies then, the idea is that we can all help in some small way to make things a little easier for someone. Certainly you have a huge community of people who love and care for you and are fervently praying for your recovery. Although you're not even out of Craig, you're already planning to help others. You are absolutely amazing. Tell your mom and dad that they did a terrific job of raising you (and Emily). And of course it doesn't hurt that you came from such strong stock! Rock on superwoman, rock on!!
