Prom Princess

I have a very special post for you this fine Friday afternoon! As some of you may know, Gracie was nominated as a princess for her high school prom, which took place this past weekend. Those that were at the event were given a very special treat: a fantastic, hilarious, and thoroughly enjoyable rap video featuring none other than Gracie Fisher. While she didn’t win the competition for prom queen (she wanted it to go to someone there, so don’t be sad!), she had a great time putting the video together!

Go watch the video first, and come back here for the back story:

https://youtu.be/bYc1P2oYlGo

Now that you’ve watched it, you’re probably thinking to yourself, “I know that song!” Okay, maybe not, unless you’re an Eminem fan, but the video is loosely based on the Eminem music video Lose Yourself. The opening sequence is a sunrise over downtown Denver, followed by an fly over Red Rocks Amphitheatre, about 20 minutes from Craig, and where Debbie has gone hiking (concerts are also regularly hosted at Red Rocks). The best part is that the rapper in the video is none other than Gracie’s nurse technician, Justin, a.k.a. “J Dirty”, and who also wrote the lyrics. They filmed the entire video in a day, and used several locations in the hospital. The nurses you see in the last sequence all care for Gracie, and the girl in the wheel chair is another patient at Craig. When they were filming in her room, the hallway was packed full of people trying to see what was going on… they created quite a stir.

I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I still smile every time I think about it, and have watched it at least a dozen times.

Have a safe and enjoyable Memorial Day weekend, and take the time to thank someone who has served our country to make this weekend possible!

Paul

Gracie, you are an AMAZING young woman, and I am so thankful to be a part of this. That you can take where you're at and put together something like this speaks volumes. In all the pictures and videos your dad and mom have sent me, I cannot believe you're smiling in so many of them. I know it's often not easy, but I'm thankful that your parents love you so much that they are there with you all the time, and that you've been able to be in such an awesome rehab facility. Even so, I can't wait to see your smiling face when you get home. Never give up, keep pushing yourself, and keep smiling!
