She walked past the nurses desk yesterday!
Evie is still in the hospital, in KGH in Kingston (thankfully!). She is quite happy with the doctors and nurses there, and the care they are giving her.
Her back is healing - though not as quickly as they had hoped. They are going to re-evaluate today or tomorrow, because her back will indicate when they will start her on treatment for the multiple myeloma. The drugs she will be given for the myeloma will push her red and white blood cells down lower than they have been, which will impede healing of her back.
Evie has told them several times she wants to be able to roll over in bed by herself, and get up and go to the bathroom on her own - before they discharge her.
Also, depending on the course of action they take with the myeloma - she may need to remain in the hospital for the start of that treatment. They are discussing putting her on a heavy duty steroid instead of the typical options of chemo. Then the stem cell transplant. If they can use her own cells they will, if not mom and I may be matches; a sibling (mom) would be the most likely match.
Keep the prayers coming!
Yesterday she walked with the walker and mom, down past the nurses desk and back to her room, which is the farthest she's gone! WAHOO!!!
Maybe Evie doesn't realize this (if you're reading, Hi Evie! I will call you soon!), but this experience has already changed her. She is in very good spirits, and determined to fight this. That's not the change but, she is not guarded at all anymore. I don't know how to explain it. But, she is just different. In only wonderful ways.
So happy she has resolved to beat this thing, and we will be there every step of the way.
