Daddy's service today was truly beautiful - I'm sure he would have been very pleased with the way it proceeded, and having worked in a funeral home himself, with the care that he and the family received from Mulkey. The Reverand Jimmy Pollard traveled some distance to officiate and everyone who participated in the service was wonderful. Chris was able to speak as well, reminding to celebrate Daddy's life and sharing memories that made us laugh in the midst of our sorrow. [...]

Daddy has taken another turn for the worse. His blood count and blood pressure have dropped significantly, indicating internal bleeding. A CT scan will be done; he has been prepped with the dye already. If the bleeding is his stomach surgery would be required to correct it - this would necessitate the lifting of the DNR status and intubation. For the moment, he is being given medications in an attempt to regulate everything, but all hinges on the results of the CT scan. [...]
The doctor did end up coming around yesterday after my morning post and said that Daddy is doing well. They expect to repeat the swallow test today, and she anticipates that he will pass it. If he does, the feeding tube in his nose will be removed and he can begin to eat normally again. Also, if he passes, Rehabilitation will come in to do an assessment and he may be moved to that department for a few days while he regains some strength. [...]
Daddy has been wide awake since 2:40 a.m. and quite alert. Talking to the nurses, watching TV, doing word search puzzles, and reading the newspaper. He has been up sitting in the chair for about an hour and a half now and has had his morning respiratory therapy. Docs making rounds but did not stop by his room and that seems to make him a little anxious. Probably just "nothing new" right now. [...]
Daddy has been awake and alert all evening, watching TV. Bill Newbern dropped by and Daddy enjoyed the visit. No change in treatment, though he did have an EKG today - nurse said results were okay and the doctor will discuss them with us. [...]
Denise reports that Daddy called a friend tonight (C.T. Mansfield) and is sitting up in the chair again.
One difference from this morning is that the speech therapist was pleased with Daddy's progress today - however, due to the weekend and the holiday on Monday it will be at least Tuesday before the next swallow test is performed. [...]
