Waiting...

Who likes waiting? I have had to wait patiently for many things in life, yet still I am learning to trust in this season of waiting. We were told by the Transplant Coordinator that this is often the hardest time for people. Waiting for the call, waiting for the right match, waiting to get off the antibiotics, waiting to be released from hospital, waiting to see if the transplant will work.

Psalm 27:14, “Wait for the Lord; be strong and take heart, and wait for the Lord.” This sounds so good, but hard to put into practice. When word of another patient getting a transplant comes it can be disheartening, you are joyful for that individual, but left wondering when that day will come for your family. This is where I was left yesterday.

A season of waiting is difficult no matter the circumstances, yet we are told to be joyful.
Romans 12:12, “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” Joyful in hope. Hope of what lies ahead, whether that be on this Earth or in Heaven. That is something that Jed lives out. For those of you who know Jed well when he is asked how things are going, almost always the response will be "Great!" It can seem like this is a generic responds at times, but he is simply putting into practice what he believes. Life with Christ is great, no matter the circumstances that surround us. If we can't find the hope in what God has promised then what are we left with? Jed knows that God will either heal him on this side of life or in heaven for sure, and he will wait on that promise, and still never stop praying and asking.

As a child I remember asking God for neon signs to show me what to do. I often wish still for those neon signs. Lord I want to know what the future holds, so I may be prepared.
Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the LORD with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.”
I am still asked to trust God even when it feels dark and the future is unknown. This time and season in life is just a vapor in comparison to God’s big plan. The other day I listened to a podcast of a fellow believer who was being interviewed about a tragic event in her life where she lost her husband and daughter at the hand of a gun man and was injured herself. She recalls at her lowest point crying out to God ‘why”, and the response she got was “Do you still trust me?”

Do I trust that he hears me? Do I trust that he is faithful in his promises? Do I trust that he will give me the strength needed? Do I trust that he will provide in this season of waiting? Do I trust that if things don’t go as I desire that he still loves me?

YES.

Psalm 46:10, “Be still, and know that I am God”
Psalm 31:14, “But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, “You are my God.””
