This is just ridiculous

Hi friends,

I want to let you all know that I had surgery last week to biopsy a tumor growth in my mouth that I felt the day before Thanksgiving (and literally EXACTLY a year to the day of my first surgery, which is totally insane).  The results confirmed a recurrence of the cancer and I will be going into surgery tomorrow morning to remove another tumor in the maxilla. My head surgeon will be removing the other half of my upper jaw and some bone that supports the nose, so I will only have one molar left on either side. The plastic surgeon will then jump in and remove the fibula bone from my leg and from that reconstruct the jaw (I don't fully understand how, but I know titanium plates will somehow connect it to my cheek bones and they will eventually grow together). There is a chance of a facial deformity due to the removal of the bone under the nose, but hopefully they can fix that somewhere down the line. The entire surgery will take about 10 hours and I will be at HUP (Hosp of the Univ. of Penn) for 6-7 days. I'll have a feeding tube for a little while and God knows what else is involved that I don't even know about.

Possible radiation and chemo will be discussed at a later date and there will be quite a few reconstructive surgeries over the next 6 months-year. I tried to talk the plastic surgeon into giving me a boob lift if there is extra time but he said that isn't his expertise so I'm out of luck.

I don't really know what to say other than to put the facts out there and ask for your love and support AGAIN (especially at 11:30 am tomorrow) as I start on another leg of this very unexpected journey. I think I am in utter shock and disbelief. It's so surreal. Please pray or meditate or hope that this all goes smoothly. That hasn't really been the pattern in the past but hopefully this one won't have any complications given that it is the hardest surgery yet. 4 head surgeries in 13 months is certainly not what I had planned for.

Sending love,

Kaytie

My dearest Kaytie, While this seems ridiculous and surreal to you, it's hard for me to believe as well. I am and will continue to send you pure love, light and healing as well as holy guidance for the doctors, surgeons and nurses as you are in their care. Every time you pop into my head a huge smile appears and my heart feels full. I love you so very much...holding you in the light and in my heart, Heidi

Kaytie I may have been quiet and in the background but I must say I have been following you for the past year. YOU are my HERO!. I read, and reread what you posted and all I can do is shake my head in disbelief. I can't even pretend to fathom what must be going through your own thoughts. God be with you tomorrow and the next days, months, and years. Just know us earthly mortals will be here rooting and cheering you on. We will be pushing you upward and onward every step of the way. Hopefully, all of us can help provide you with the strength and fortitude you will need--each and every one of us will give a piece of ourselves to help you find the way. I know I will be watching the clock tomorrow, and stopping several times during the day to pray for you and your recovery. We are here cheering you on girl. Take a deep breath, go with your right foot forward, and stay strong. You are a very special person and don't ever forget that. {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{KATIE}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}} Not in silence-- Bonnie
