May 2nd, 2018

Not much to report so I have been slacking on my posts.  I managed to make it thru the last cycle without getting a fever like I did in round #1.  That was very good news because it saved me spending a week in the hospital getting antibiotics.  I think I learned things in round #1 that help me not get a fever / infection.  I was supposed to go back into the hospital to start round #3 last Wednesday, but my numbers did not come up as fast as they did last month.  It has taken about one week longer to be high enough to start the next round, which starts tomorrow.  Maybe this means my old bones are tired of getting beat up.

This weekend I decided to tackle a project that has been on the books for over a year.  There are a couple of hose bibs that leak thru the handle when you turn them on.  I figured it would only take a couple hours from start to finish. I told the Karen the water would be off for a couple hours and I got started.  I took the hose bibs apart and headed to the plumbing store to get some new gaskets.  Our house was built in 1925 so when the guy saw the hose bibs he used the word "antique" and they did not have the gasket.  They gave me material to build my own gasket which was not a big deal. I got the first hose bib back together in short order and started on the second.  As I was installing the second hose bib I noticed it was acting funny.  Long story short, the threads of the hose bib had disappeared.

I know what all may construction friends are going to say, I over tighten it and stripped the threads off. I will argue that this is not the case, but I cannot prove it. Back to the plumbing store. I tried to replace the part and keep the old hose bid for sentimental reasons, but the work antique came up again.  I bought a new hose bibs and went home to replace it.  When I took the existing hose bid off and exposed the pipe behind that I could not see earlier, the plumber from1925 used a 3/4" pipe where as the new standard for hose bibs is a 1/2" pipe.  Back to the plumbing store again.  3rd time was a winner and the new hose bib was installed.  My 2 hour project took about 4.5 hours.  Sounds about standard for my projects around here.

Something else that has been happening is my hair is starting to come back the past couple weeks.  It turns out that the chemo I am currenting getting does not make your hair fall out, it was the nasty shit they gave me at the very first back in January.  It started out spotty but is getting more and more. It is not back to pre-chemo days, but it is working its way that direction. I would say my beard is back to when is was 17 years old.  Maybe that is way my numbers stayed low this time, I am working on hair rather than platelets.

I will post updates as I go thru this next round.  I hope everyone is doing well and enjoying the weather.  Karen did not proof read this so my apologies.

I have a few "vintage" hose bibs at my house that could use your newfound expertise! And I'm not sure how I feel about the hair growing back...but that's just me and my bald head talking. Keep it up!

Great to hear from you Kevin. So glad you are up to a few projects around the house and have the patience to see them through. You are kicking some serious butt and we cannot wait to have the "human" you back in the office, the "cardboard" you has run out of stories. :) Praying for your health and recovery. I'd love to bring you lunch when you are up for it.

I was wondering when we would hear from you! Your hose bib project sounds like my dishwasher project a few years back where I ended up replacing all the plumbing under my sink to install a dishwasher.

Kevin - so glad to get this update. Mark said he enjoyed your lunch a couple weeks ago. Wonderful to hear you are making the most of your time off. The honey-do list is always my favorite way to implement pain and suffering onto Mark:) Landon is getting ready to graduate and join the Beaver Nation. Of course, Parker and Mark are more than thrilled. I am getting ready to go to mom's (aka family:)) weekend and am excited to see Parker. I will most likely run into Kelsey at some point...its funny how we bump into each a lot. Love to you all!!

Mom and I were wondering how you were doing. Glad to hear things are as good as can be expected. If you have some spare time, Todd and I could use your plummer skills too. Last weekend we hooked up a hose to a bib that we "discovered" when we cut some plants out last fall. As Todd turned the water on it started spraying out of the wall. No good! I yelled, "Can you stop it?" Yes, Todd tightened it back up, but it would be nice to have a working bib there.

Hose bibs? Oh boy, you are getting bored. Actually, I can identify. Kit and I are now in a 1956 house and the outside hose bibs are the original and they did leak around the stem when they were turns on just like yours. The solution was some good old packing string from the hardware store. Had to find a "grey haired" for help before the store help knew what I was talking about. Plumbing is not my thing either. Good to hear from you.
