Happy Valentine's Day. R1 D13

Well, I have good news to report! We had a very nice and quiet weekend. Each day Mike has felt a little better than the day before. Saturday night was the first night since we've been home that he felt like he got some quality sleep. The cough is starting to go away so that has helped tremendously.

On Saturday, my best friend came up to visit. Mike sent us on a mission to go to Nebraska Furniture Mart to shop for a recliner for him. He had a pretty picky wish list, and we were a little nervous to try out any furniture in there. See, last time her and I shopped there for furniture we laid down on a bed and the frame broke. I was 8 months pregnant with Molly and I probably peed my pants from laughing so hard. The poor salesman was practically in tears because 1. Hugely Pregnant Woman and 2. Broken Bed. and 3. No sale. This time around at NFM wasn't quite as exciting, although we can say that we survived a natural disaster there. Earthquake, anyone? We actually felt the store shake from it. But now that I think about it, maybe it was another pregnant woman breaking a bed? Ha, I'll laugh about that until I die. How embarrassing.

Mike loved his new recliner, which he decided must go in our bedroom. Oh geez... the decorating enthusiast in me has to take a back seat to cancer now, too?! I'll overlook the unsightly thing for his comfort. I love him, and he loves his recliner, and it's Valentine's Weekend, so everything worked out perfect.

My mom helped Mike out with a Valentine's gift for me this year because I guess he wasn't feeling up to shopping for me. I know, he has a good excuse. So what's his excuse all the other years?! I attached a picture of the wooden sign he (Mom) gave me. I love it so much.

Mike also had some visitors this weekend. I think he really enjoyed the little bit of company. He isn't ready to host a party yet, but it felt good to see some friends. He's feeling good enough to laugh and joke around again. Winning.

The kids came back from my mom's this evening and they had lots of stories to tell about their fun and busy weekend. They got to spend time with a couple of my aunts, and I think it was time enjoyed by all of them. They were excited to come home and receive some Valentine's gifts from Mike's parents, too. We were excited to love on them again. It's hard for Mike to miss them so much, but even when they're here, he's tired, and also not wanting to catch their never ending colds. It sometimes feels like he's stuck between a rock and a hard spot. At the end of the night though, kissing them all goodnight and tucking them in bed makes it feel like everything is going to be ok. We are all exactly where we're supposed to be. Together under one roof.

Tomorrow we have a pretty busy day. He has to get bloodwork done, his Picc care, and I'm going to have his care moved to the KU Cancer Center North. It's much closer to us, so it seems like a no brainer. He'll get to do his Inpatient Chemo at KU Med now, too. I know. Always changing. I'll post more about these changes after I make some phone calls tomorrow and have more answers to some of my questions.

It's past my bedtime now, and the girls don't have school tomorrow, which means they'll all be up WAY too early! I'll update you all more on our change of doctors when I know more.

XoXo

Robin

I like it....a recliner in the bedroom....can you ask mike to talk my wife into letting me have a recliner in the bedroom. Glad to hear he is feeling better. Now for your joke of the day: A man walks into a bar and orders a drink. Then he notices there are pieces of meat nailed to the ceiling of the bar so he asks the barman what they are for. The barman replies, “If you can jump up and pull one of them down you get free beer all night. If you fail, you have to pay the bar $100. Do you want to have a go?” The man thinks about it for a minute before saying, “Nah, the steaks are too high!”
