"When We Get Through This" Conversations. Hope. Good Days.|7-7-16|

In the past week Mike has started a lot of his sentences with, "When we get through this...". He's talking plans for the future. I could cry tears of sweet relief just from the change in his attitude, as well as how he's feeling. I could sit and talk about our dreams for the future all day long. It's been amazing.

While we've been busy day dreaming, I've slacked on keeping everyone updated, so here's a little recap:

Molly had a fun birthday on June 29th! She turned 6, and like every kid, she was so excited to be another year older. She was concerned, the night before her birthday, if I would have to take her shopping the next day to get all new clothes. She didn't think any of her clothes would fit her anymore. I reassured her, that if we're lucky, she won't grow that much overnight. She was relieved, because she already had her birthday outfit picked out for the next day. :) She had a friend join her and I for lunch (she picked Dairy Queen), then the three of us went swimming and had ice cream afterwards.

That evening, Mike's parents and my parents, as well as a couple close friends came over to celebrate with pizza and cake. I wish I would have had a summer birthday. They're so much fun!

Last week I finally received my swab kit from Be The Match. It was quick and easy to swab the inside of my cheeks for my DNA and submit it back to them to become a member of the bone marrow registry. I know I probably won't be a match for Mike (but wouldn't that be cool?), but I really hope I can be someone's cure.

Mike's brother received a kit as well, and he will be specifically tested to see if he is Mike's match. He has a 30% chance, and 30% has never made me so hopeful as it does now. I'm not sure how soon we will find out if he is, or not, but I don't think it takes too long. A sibling is the ideal choice for a donor since they share the same DNA, and Mike would have the least likely chance of his body rejecting the bone marrow if it comes from his brother.

My mom and stepdad took a trip out to Colorado over the holiday weekend to visit my sister. They took Molly & Lucy with them, and they all had a wonderful time. I was so glad for the girls to get to have a little vacation, and the timing worked well since Mike's labs showed that he was neutropenic last Friday.
