Beginning the Journey
“Blessed be the LORD, my rock, who trains my hands for war, and my fingers for battle; he is my steadfast love and my fortress, my stronghold and my deliverer, my shield and he in whom I take refuge.”
Psalm 144:1-2
On January 12 Laura was diagnosed with leukemia. Laura will be admitted on January 17 to the OHSU cancer ward in Portland. As of now, the treatment plan is to begin chemotherapy, followed by a stem cell transplant. She may be at OHSU for a number of months. God’s promises of life are numerous, and we are choosing to believe what God says in his Word. He is faithful.
Laura would like to encourage all of us to choose the path of faith and not the path of fear. The prayers of a righteous man have great power (James 5:16).
Please join us in prayer, asking Jesus for:
- complete healing
- for Laura’s body to respond positively to treatment, and for side effects to be minimal
- for insurance to approve and pay for all parts of treatment
- that a stem cell donor would be matched from among one of her four sisters
- that the transplant and all treatment will be successful
- that Laura will remain free from illness and all infections
- that the Lord will provide for all financial needs for the Ziebart family
If you have any questions or would like to send a note of encouragement, please DO NOT contact Laura or Ed directly through text, phone, Facebook or their regular email addresses.
Instead:
- please leave encouragement on this page
- send cards to their home address (ask Harmony and Heather at email address below)
- email them at [email protected] (an address monitored by Heather and Harmony, all messages will be shared with Ed and Laura)
Laura has requested that her hospital room be filled with scripture, and we would invite you to join us in making sure that every inch of her wall is covered with the Word of God.
Thank you for loving Laura and for upholding her in prayer.
Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised…
The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.
Psalm 145:3, 18

My dear friend, Laura, I just learned your news (thank you Harmony!). You do realize this is NOT what you had planned for retirement, right? :) It will take a while to digest your news, but I have heard that tears are a form of prayer. It's what happens when our hearts can't say the right words. I don't have the "right" words, but I have love for you, sister, and will be supporting you DAILY in prayer. You , yourself, are such a prayer warrior. Now you need to let us pick up that mantle for you. And your family and friends are doing so willingly. Rest in that. Trusting for many days of hope and healing. my love to you, Pam
We walk with you and fight with you on this journey of faith in God's healing powers. Prayers are being said at this very moment. May you feel the love and support being sent your way. " When you come to the edge of all the light you know, and are about to step off into total darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing one of two things will happen: there will be something solid to stand on, or you will taught how To fly."
Sweet Laura, I haven't seen you in way too long but I get Ziebart updates from mom and love hearing about your family. How I was blessed scrolling through the pictures on this page and seeing you LIVING life, supporting and enjoying your kids, loving your precious grandkids and seeing the world. This verse is in my heart for you as your life examplifies it so well, "He has shown you, oh man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice and to love kindness and to walk humbly with your God." Micah 6:8 Your life, Laura, reflects God's blessing as you have walked in obedience to Him. You are now honoring Him even as you walk through the fire. We love you are praying for you!!!! Love, Adria and Trevor Rollman (As a side note.... I will always fondly remember Lincoln logs, forts in the woods, fire ant hills, and playing barbies at your house in Springfield ;)
Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you. Psalm 55:22 Laura be at peace and know GOD is doing great works through you. In GOD we TRUST!
Sweet sis: God spoke to you in a powerful way the day before you went into the hospital. I know how much this vision you had moved you as you told us what you had written down as you remembered every aspect of it. Always remember that "Y" in the road and that the left road, heading into the path of fear, is forever closed to you even as you have doubts in the months ahead. It is the right path to faith and safety that you saw so clearly that is your path now. You gave this vision to your loved ones and we ourselves are sustained by it, as you will be! Follow that light to life that is lit by the Light of Christ!
Dearest baby sister.... I remember the day our Lord had planned for you to be born! Oh, how excited I was thanking God for protecting you while the search for was accomplished....and then the thriving began and you came home to us! God has guided and protected you all along the way.... and your faith has been a beautiful comfort to so many all these years! The comfort of God flows thru your life continuously....and it is reaching out now even though your path is treading a deep valley....your light SHINES BRIGHT BECAUSE OF JESUS IN YOU! May each one who touches your life during this journey receive His grace and comfort unto salvation..." It is I, even I who comforts thee"....Isa.51:12......love you so much my precious sister!.....Donna
Hello my friend! Thinking about you ..especially today on your son's birthday! I sent Matthew a Happy Birthday e mail, and he jokingly replied I was his "oldest" friend as I got to be there , watching him be born! A precious day for me! Thank you again for sharing those moments! Remember that head of hair?! :) You come to mind so many times during each day. Always remembering you in prayer, and talking to Our God about you. He loves you so. May you be filled with sweet memories today and know you are LOVED! love, Pam
Hello my friend! I wrote on Matthew's birthday but the post must have been lost in cyber space (couldn't have been operator error! :) I was reflecting on Matthew's birth and being there for his birth..remember all that dark hair? It was an exciting time. I e mailed Matthew and he jokingly said I must be his "oldest" friend, since I was there. ha You have such an awesome family, and they are all pulling for you. As well as so many , even those you don't know, joining together to pray for you and your family. Know that the Hand of God is moving. He loves you so much. I love you , my friend! I am reminded of the scripture in Exodus 14:13 when Moses is speaking to the people. "Do not be afraid. Stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today. The Lord will fight for you, you need only to be still." On the days when you feel like the ground isn't quite firm, grasp on to the realization that many otherss are standing in the gap for you, and keeping that ground firm! Much love to you! Pam
