6/8/15 Chemo #8...FINALLY!

Hello, Fabulous Friends and Family!

So…this will be short…I really should be in bed. Oh well! Let’s do this!

So, I found out yesterday (Sunday) that my WBC (white blood cell) counts were good enough to do chemo. Exciting, but scary, because this week I have to prepare for Kaitlyn’s Graduation Party on Sunday. Oh well. Thanks for all of you who volunteered to help. I’ve got family help. Plus, how in the world can I teach all of you how to properly load my dishwasher???

This morning I was in a funk. Sad. Thinking about all that still had to be done and started asking the “What if” questions again. What a whiner!!! Better now. Thanks for all the encouragement and prayers. They REALLY help! Anyway, started feeling better and got back in the game.

So I’m back with the fanny pack and cold fingers and cold throat and losing hair that’s not growing back. But…if that’s what it takes to beat this. Bring it on. No. Scratch that. Make them go away with the cancer. Yeah, that’s better.

Also, got my CEA tumor marker test back. It’s down again to 17.8. Yay! And that’s after two weeks of no chemo! God is great!

Oh yeah, my eyes went freaky tonight (a new crazy side-effect). Felt like they weren’t seeing in sync. I thought maybe one was looking at the other to see what it was up to, but when I looked in the mirror they looked normal. Freaked my kids out, though. One asked if it was “normal” or if I should call 911. (Not gonna happen!) It was quite hilarious. I tell you, I’m a cyborg. I have very little control over my body. I think Nutella is in cahoots with cyborgs. I had to banish myself from it again. That last little stint stuck me with 3 extra pounds. Stupid Nutella!

Anyway, off to bed. At 10pm a wave of nausea swept over me, which was good in the sense that it reminded me to take my drugs (whoops!) They’ve given me a new nausea medicine that is also for anxiety. Hilarious. I am not an anxious person. Angry is a MUCH better description. Don’t cross me because I’ll come at you like a crazy Nutella-induced cyborg. The pharmacist kept saying that it would help with my anxiety and I kept correcting him that it was for nausea. And he’d smile that crazy smile and would say, “Yes…AND for your anxiety.” I had to smile back and leave before I went Nutella-cyborg on him. So, I'm an anxious-angry person with nausea. (Like I said, pray for my family!) And don’t worry…I’m working on it.

Whoops, so much for short. Have a wonderful week of blessings and sunshine and Nutella-filled dreams--just don’t eat the stuff; it’s sneaky stuff!

Thank you for the update, Sarah. So glad to see the CEA numbers going down. God is great! Prayers to you and the family. Don't forget about us in Montana. You need to come and visit sometime. We do have 3 guest rooms now that the kids are all moving out. 3 more years of HS for Jared and off to college. Guest room #4. Take care. ;-)

Anger seems like an appropriate response.

Always good to see the numbers go down -- especially without the chemo! That is great news. Please don't worry too much when you get down and need to step "out of the game". That is going to happen -- and frankly, it needs to happen every once-in-awhile in the marathon you are running. God told Paul that "My grace is sufficient for you" when Paul asked to have his "thorn in the flesh" removed. Sorry -- I don't mean to sound preachy. You are doing fabulous. You and your family are an inspiration. But it is also okay to have a bad day.

Hey Sarah, I agree with other comments that it's ok to allow yourself some time to step out to grieve and be angry/anxious before getting back in the game! You and your family are near and dear to so many of us ... we are definitely keeping you guys in prayer as you keep running this race! Thank you again for being honest and authentic as you share your story with us! Hugs from our family to yours!

You mention that Nutella is in cahoots with cyborgs. A doctor telling someone they are anxious, will result in anxiety. This, therefore, provides the doctor with a confirmation that his diagnosis is correct. He's in cahoots with himself! It's sort of like Hagen Daas telling you that your ideal weight is 300 pounds. Christ will have some work to do when He returns, to straighten things out. But if all you have to straighten out is anger and the propensity to govern the dishwasher loading procedures, you are in better shape than most of us. :) Glad you were able to take another treatment, which puts you closer to the end of it. See you and the whole family on Sunday!
