Another Week in The Books (Almost)
Now that treatment is well underway, I feel like the weeks are flying by. We officially have 4 weeks before the proton therapy is finished for this round. This morning we were once again at the proton center at a very early 6:30 AM. Jason insists on taking the bumpiest road in town to get there, he says it's 4 minutes faster. We are still always a few minutes late, so I say he just likes the scenic route. He's an old man in a younger man's body. Luckily tomorrow we can sleep in, my appointment is at 10:30.
After proton we went by MDA for my labs. They just keep taking my blood, so I just have to keep making more. Next we stopped by CVS to pick up sunblock and ketone strips. The ketone strips verified officially that I am definitely in ketosis. The sunblock is so that I don't get sunburned in Houston now that's it's getting warmer/sunnier and I'm wearing shorter sleeves more often. I have decided it's probably bad to be a cancer patient and allow yourself to get sunburned.
I guess we didn't get enough sleep last night because we both needed a nap when we got home from my appointments. Jason says that I do not have restful sleep. According to him, I sit up at night and look around and then go back to sleep. I am not going to say that this doesn't happen, however, I have no recollection of this so he could be lying. He did try to convince me that I did not have an iced tea today in the car because he had emptied it to make room in the drink holder. It's really not nice to try to trick someone who had brain surgery. I'm pretty sure that causes some kind of imbalance in the universe that will come back to get you. I'm just saying.
In the afternoon we walked over to Rice Village with Holly & Nathan to have some lunch on the patio of Little Liberty. Very relaxing and very nice weather. OK, Jason and I did have a few words over his insistence that he "help" me find things to eat, sometimes he's really pushy and wants to tell me what I should choose. Anyone who knows me can probably guess that this goes over not well at all, and when I asked him today why he would persist if I've never once rewarded it, he couldn't answer. I feel like he's doing the same thing again and again expecting a different result. I think we all know what that means.
Later Jason and I met with a woman in integrated medicine at MDA who is conducting a study on couples yoga and how yoga helps both the GBM patient and the spouse/support person. There are just a few basic poses that we will use and we will primarily focus on breathing, meditation, and relaxation. She also said that sometimes at the end of the session there are some therapeutic things that come up and she helps work through it. Maybe that's when I should bring up his insistence on "helping." I'm sure he'd be receptive then. By the way, it was during our scheduling our yoga appointments that I noticed some future appointments had been added to my online calendar by MDA. Right now (and this frequently changes) I have no appointments after May 4 until May 23-26. So unless they add something for later that week, we will be back in Lubbock by Monday, May 9.
Jason continues to talk with attorneys about our case against the insurance company and he thinks he may have found someone who is interested. Some have passed not because they think we don't have a case but because they are large firms and tend to take much larger cases. So here is to hope!

You are just such an amazing person, Shannon. I understand why so many people love you. Including Jason, who is trying to help so hard that ...well...maybe sometimes it hurts. Keep being you, and help him keep being him. You are an unbeatable team!
I love you two...and I love that you two have one another, for better or worse!! And, for what it's worth, this attorney understands why some have shied away, but I am very happy that you have found some who will perhaps give your fight the attention it deserves! Happy thoughts!
Hi Shannon, Winston Cundiff III here. Your updates are marvelous and your spirit is to me admired. Kathy and I know exactly where you are located in H. When she visits MDA every three months we stay at a Marriott on Westpark. The roads is that area are the worst in the world and we enjoy driving through the West University residential area to escape the Kirby traffic and pot holes and see the nice homes and landscaping. Not sure about you diet but try Prego's (Italian) and Goode's seafood ( the campachana is to die for)' both are in the area. Say hello to you family please. W.
I read your post to Bob nightly. He googles what we don't understand. We both are in awe of your attitude and spunk. You might have gotten that from Mamaw N. Stay strong sweetheart. You are doing amazing. We love you .
