It's a Rainy Houston Monday

It was a great weekend, we had many visitors and a lot of hanging out. On Saturday Kim & Buddy hosted a party that featured inappropriate language on a cake and a banner, some inappropriate conversation, and a whole lot of fun. I will answer the question that I know you are all thinking. No, there were no strippers, however, some of you may have seen photos of the cake on Facebook. It was a great opportunity to hang out with some of Jason's Houston friends whom we haven't had any time with since we've been here. I hope we can find time to see them more either before we leave or when we come back for treatments. We also had several visitors from Rawls and although a short visit, a really great one!

It started raining last night and then it started storming and now everything downtown is flooded. We swam into proton therapy this morning before 7 (I was glad I brought my swimsuit) but when we got there they were saying that patients and employees were having trouble getting in and there are some potential issues with the facility when it floods (the proton center is underground) so tomorrow we have to call ahead to make sure all systems are go. I was able to receive this morning's treatment. I will say that compared to how it floods in Lubbock, I'm not impressed with how little rain it takes to throw everyone here into a panic. I mean, they have a drainage system and I've yet to see water deep enough to cover the hood of a truck. Is it bad that I'm unimpressed? I'm hoping the rain will cease at least a little because I don't want anymore delays. For each day a treatment is delayed, that's one more day I'm not waking up in my own bed.

Yoga was canceled because the instructor apparently couldn't get out of her street. As far as I know, my appointment with the trainer at the gym is still on so I will at least get a little physical conditioning today. We are considering going to Macy's later to look for prom dresses with Ashley later. If most people are staying home, we should be able to navigate the Galleria fairly easily. Come to think of it...we might need supervision.

The total lack of drainage is what causes Houstonians to freak out. The Gulf of Mexico is 50 miles away and Houston is only 50 feet above sea level. Water tends to drain very slowly. The TMC (Texas Medical Center) has been hit really hard twice by flooding and so folks tend to over react. During one flood, I remember being stuck in a restaurant where the CVS is located on Kirby. The place was called Rainy Days. People were canoeing in the Alabama movie theater (now Trader Joe's). Joe had a kayaker go by his house this morning.
