That's A Wrap...For Now...

So happy to have completed my last proton treatment this morning! Jane and Poppy came into Houston last night so they could be there this morning. Afterward we all went out to breakfast to celebrate and then Jane had to take Poppy home, I'm still not over it. Later in the day Jason and I attended our last yoga session for the couples yoga study and then I had my last blood draw until I get back on May 23rd. Huge exhale!

The radiology oncologist told me yesterday that he feels like I've done great through the treatment. Everyone here is very optimistic given how things have gone so far. I even started feeling hungry again and have had hunger pangs for two days in a row! I have a pretty good system with the food situation right now and I'm feeling pretty good about it. Jason is even eager to help with meals and planning. Maybe I should have gotten a brain tumor years ago. Oh, wait...I did have a brain tumor years ago, I just didn't know it yet!

If we were climbing Mount Everest we'd be at Base Camp. We still have Icefall and Camps 1-4 to pass before reaching anything like a summit. Like a climb on Mount Everest, conditions can change at any point and become unquestionably treacherous. The unfortunate difference between our journey and the Everest climb is that we have no idea what the summit looks like. Nor do we want to even try to imagine it. What I do know is that I want to do whatever I need to do with each and every step along the way so that with each pause, we will consider how far the researchers have come to find the cure. Researchers all over the world seem to be very optimistic that they can do this and although they could just be narcissists, I'm going to just assume they are instead brilliant medical researchers who are as close to a cure as they claim. It's been so great to have all of you with us on this journey and I hope that you will continue with us. I will continue to post updates along the way!

So, what am I going to do first? The family is going to see Keanu, which appears to be a movie about a cat lost in a bad area of town. And then I'm going to sleep for many hours!

Stay in the know. Sign up to receive email notifications the moment new Journal entries are posted

Love the gong banging. Great ritual. Having spent a great deal of time conducting research at MDA for my dissertation I can tell you, these people are not on ego trips. They are obsessed with curing cancer and they are brilliant at levels that scare mere mortals like us and give us hope. You are in good hands. They care about you and will fight like hell. More hugs waiting for you in West Texas.

Have a wonderful 3 weeks in Lubbock. Two things are for sure: First, you have given your all, as you always do and second, the proton did not damage your ability to effectively communicate even during times of exhaustion.

Congrats on reaching base camp- that is indeed huge!! All of the things you are doing along with the brilliant medical minds set you up for the best possible climb. And you know we are all here, doing whatever we can to support you. I wish I could give you a high-five and a hug right now in person, but sending that to you as well as all my admiration.

You did say researchers all over the world--so that means its science and not narcissism. Yahoo!
