Post Treatment: Day 1
Today we are wrapping up loose ends and getting ready to leave Houston tomorrow. I met with the trainer this morning but I was just too exhausted to work out. Instead, she helped me by measuring my body fat and scheduling some sessions for when we return later this month. With the knowledge of my percent body fat, I was able to calculate the number of grams of net carbs (30-40g) and protein (51-84g) that I can ingest each day and remain in ketosis. I can have as much fat (butter, oils, etc.) and high fat foods (avocado, cheese, eggs, fish, nuts, seeds, etc.) as I want as long as I don't exceed my limits on carbs, proteins, and simple sugars (< 10g). If you are interested in a keto diet for yourself, I encourage you to read up on the diet before jumping in. Yesterday I was laughing to Jason that I'm still buying lean meat at a time when I really need the fat to increase calories. I've eaten almost vegetarian and have followed a diet similar to Weight Watchers for so long that I'm finding it difficult to get out of those habits. Just in case you are wondering, I will not be sharing my percentage of body fat.
The rest of our day has been packing and preparing for the cleaning service to come in this afternoon. We want to leave the place in as good of shape as we found it in, I hope we are able to accomplish that. With my 2 (ahem, 3) I sometimes wonder how we even function. I've accused at least 2 of them of being "Pigpen" because they sit somewhere and mess just accumulates around them. It's the strangest thing!
In case you haven't read other posts, Bob McDonald and Lois Phillips lent us their perfectly located condo in Houston since February 19. We are so grateful for their generosity, we've met plenty of people who are here for extended periods in hotels or renting way outside of the loop. Those in hotels obviously cannot have their children with them. Having this place to stay has just been so perfect and has alleviated so much stress for us, especially while dealing with insurance companies and paying everything up front.
Tonight we are meeting friends and family for a celebratory dinner and tomorrow we will drive to Mason, TX to meet some friends and enjoy 2 nights in the Hill Country. Then on Sunday we will drive the rest of the way to Lubbock. This method breaks the drive into two 4 1/2 hour trips instead of a straight 9 hours, even if Mason is a bit out of the way. I'm a little scared yet eager to see what the weekend holds, you never know what might happen with our friends (I'm not naming any names). I guess what happens in the Hill Country, stays in the Hill Country!

Love reading your posts! You keep writing--we'll keep reading. I will never ask age, weight or % of body fat and I would appreciate the same courtesy.
This will be a memory making mothers day! Glad to know you will get to be home for awhile. Aidan can enjoy the end of school festivities. Debbie Reeves - All Saints
So glad you get a few "normal" weeks at home. You need & deserve the time. Have fun on your journey the next few weeks.
I love how generous Dr McDonald has been! So glad you are going to have fun this weekend. Tell everyone to make good life choices.
Love the agreement that neither of us reveals % of body fat!!!! Yikes!!! Love the idea of breaking up the trip home. Happy Trails. Love to all, N.
Welcome back to the land of 83% sky. That was just about right for Molly Ivins. And me. And hopefully for you.
Don't know how far you will be from Driftwood, TX, but you should definitely try the Salt Lick there. The best barbecue in the world since time was started! Since you are counting "net carbs", you should look into the Atkins diet. That is the one I used to lose weight, as I have problems with my thyroid and sometimes my metabolism doesn't work very well. (or at least that is my excuse). They have great recipes and they sell things in the grocery store like breakfast bars that have very few carbs and account for the sugar as well. I know it must be hard to switch from Weight Watcher's philosophy to a no carb diet, just like it was for me to switch from a no carb to Weight Watchers. hahaha! I always come back to the no carb, because I am addicted to sugar and doughnuts. So glad you will be back in Lubbock for a time and try to restore some normalcy. You are very loved, little one. Do not ever forget that!
OH, and if you are close to Kerrville, James Avery's headquarters are there and in Hunt there is Mo Ranch. The hill country is my very favorite place on the planet.
